I wasn't going to post this...but, on Monday my ex messaged me. She works at a school in Calgary, and they were flying Mike Downie in to do a Chanie Wenjack workshop. The school was paying for his flights, for his accommodations...everything. The students had been doing Wenjack-themed modules in their classes. And then Mike cancelled, with apologies, and said he'd be back as soon as possible. That afternoon I ran into one of the band's managers at the doctor's office; we chatted for a bit, I said I was looking forward to Gord's album, and he said, "Oh yeah, that's gonna be a real heartbreaker." And I mean...both of those things could've been nothing. But they gave me a bit of a queasy feeling. I don't know if they softened the blow - I don't think they did - but they at least very sort of kind of mentally prepared me for today.

who is gonna tell the stories Gord told? It's like a light in my life has gone out.
i know he was ready--Gord was always ready--but if there was ever a person i wished more time & joy & pleasure for, it's Gord.

Just heard on the radio. I feel so alone...already. He understood so much about life and the world. God I hate this. Today's gonna be a huge struggle. Thank you so much Gord for everything.

We are all sad today but I believe once some time has passed we will all be even more grateful for what Gordie gave us and left for us and grateful for the opportunity to see him live and share his music.
