das_hips Wrote:Some of the songs you guys are taking are pure masterpieces. I agree that it is a very opinionated conversation(arguement) but Tiger the Lion is definitely an awesome song, lyrically and musically( the devil's interval). The only song that I have trouble getting into is off Music @ Work. Sharks, Freak Turbulence and even Wild Mountain Honey are very entertaining songs, but Toronto just irritates me. That and a couple of songs off their EP. But every other Hip song has the energy and music intelligence to surpass any other band's A-Sides. How about a discussion about favourite songs next time, it will keep every one happy.
We've talked about our favourite songs in a lot of other topics das-hips (strange talking to someone who has the nick i use for my hotmailaccount

), and we all agree that The Hip is a fantastic band. However, even they have made a few songs not liked by every fan. There's nothing wrong with talking about that. Even "us fans" have to be critical now and then.....

Least Fav - Coconut Cream, Wild Mountian Honey, Chagrin Falls
I can't see how people can dislike Tiger The Lion or Sharks. It boggles the mind.

This is my first posting on the forum and I hate for it to be on such a somber note but here goes. It's very rarely that I'll ever not listen to an entire track while taking in a Hip cd but I can't seem to make it through Butts Wigglin and I hate to say it but Something On is really starting to annoy me.

I love Wind Down The Pines
Those who dislike Henhouse -
lubineski - 02-08-2003
Those who dislke Henhouse are fools. It is the Hip's finest work, and sees them at their creative peak.
The worst Hip song is either 50 Mission Cap, Freak Turbulence or Wild Mountain Honey.

~Wild Mountain Honey
~Hailstone Hands of God
I'm gonna have to say though i always thought Freak Turbulance was a pretty entertaing song. Thats just me though

Thowing up Glass -
Wheatking20 - 03-24-2003
I think Thowing up Glass on IVL has to be the worse song the hip has done. I still love everything they do but I don't know what they were thinking of when they put that on the album. GO HIP!!!!

Throwing off glass is the hiden gem from ivl for me.
so many good lines that make you think
the song came about from a conversation with a child, if i remember the interview with sook-yin from dnto

i will personally exempt songs that, to me, are so divergent from the hip's normal "sound" that they can be written off as "weird" instead of "bad" (i.e. coconut cream, tiger the lion, evelyn, etc.) so my answer for the songs that wont be making my mix cds anytime soon are
all canadian surf club
wild mountain honey
apartment song
and god does it hurt to see chagrin falls mentioned.
and kari, weve never conversed, but you already rule.

dannya2 - 03-24-2003
I also love apartment song
am I weird?

Powderfinger - 03-24-2003
Songs that don't blow me away are....
Fight
Three Pistols
She Didn't Know
Sharks
Wild Mountain Honey
The Bear
I think it's cool that answers to this topic are all over the place. 8)

If I had to pick one song I disliked it would be Fire in the Hole. Yet I still like the song. I usually tend to like the different tunes, or the ones that stick out on the album as different. Apartment song is one of my faves, it has so much flow. Tiger the Lion is an amazing song as well. I don't really think you can be objective when it comes to music - somebody mentioned that - we all attach ourselves to different songs for completely different reasons, and we also dislike songs for completely different reasons as well.

Fight?
Three Pistols?
She Didn't Know?
Huh?
I know this is all about personal taste, which is very difficult to judge, but c'mon...She Didn't Know, for example, could possible be the best song they ever did.
Least favorite - Puttin' Down - simply because it was taking valuable time from something great on the last tour.
