Man...I think I need to get my ears checked or q-tipped at the very least...I absolutely love Fireworks, I really like courage, Use it up is one of my faves off IVL and here I just finished writing out my dream setlist in a different thread and each of those 3 songs are on it...shit, I opened with Fireworks!!! I guess that's the beautiful thing of the Hip..one man's "meh" is another man/woman's "rock on"

For me though...ABAC, Poets, Gift Shop and Silver Jet have never really been woody-inducing tunes...my apologies to any fans of the above noted songs..no hard feelings..

rock on,
Goulet!!!

Is this a "Least Favorite Song" thread?
How do you define "Fan-Favorite"?
And am I the only one who can't bend their mind around this?

- lampshade29 - 07-22-2004

I guess it's a "Least Favourite".
I just started it because I have never liked Save The Planet, but everyone I talked to loves it. Wondered if anyone could relate.

But it is totally cool how everyone has such different opinions of all these songs. It's really cool. What a wide variety of folks the Hip reach.

I'm with you, to me the entire hip collection is one big experience, it's too hard, for me at least, to point out best, worst, etc., i really can't even fathom the idea.

Oh, okay... If I had all the Hip songs to choose from I might be able to fashion some sort of order from best to worst. But seriously thinking about it, The Hip is The Hip. I like all of their songs just some I don't like as much as others. It's the "Fan-Fave" thing that threw me off cuz I was thinking "how in the hell do I know if it's a fan favorite or not?" as i was looking at others choices.

Anyway, if I had to pick a least-fave song for this thread, I'd go with a more recent song, from IVL or M@W (Not IBE), specifically I'm gonna go with "Leave." Even though I can't HATE a Hip song, "Leave" would probably be my "least favorite"... The beat at the beginning... takes awhile for the song to click...

these could be 3 of my all time top five, isn't that exactly how hip fans work! throw in butts wigglin, and fire in the hole, and you have got my QUINTessencial hip tunes, get it, quint, wow, I'm a punny guy!

I'm always upset when Chagrin Falls takes the place of another song in the setlist

- Moosehead - 07-22-2004

I think Gord D himself has mentioned, a few times, that he hates "Fire In The Hole" Smile

- pj105 - 07-22-2004

Bobcaygeon. Gotta say I dig the song, but I just don't understand why it's in the setlist so much!

It's a Good Life. Really love the song, but half of the time Gord never remembers the lyrics, and it just never comes across right in concert. Should be replaced with another IVL track.

I don't think Gord hates Fire in the Hole Moosehead. I think you're referring to a fairly common lead-in to the song Gordie does ie. "It's the song I hate, it's the song I hate" To me that was always a nod to the Sonic Youth tune Youth Against Facism which contains the line...Gord also mentions it as "song of hate" and all out "hate song"

My personal song for this thread is 38 Years Old. I'm not one of those people who can't wait for the day they bring this one back to a setlist. Like the song and maybe it's cuz I'm an old geezer who saw the song a few times way back when but...meh

Woohoo! I'm an "advanced" newbie!

I agree with those that said
NOIS
Blow

I would love to see a show where they didn't play these tunes. I thought I would have a chance at the private shows in edmonton and calgary but no luck.

Courage wasn't so great on studio album but live, courage, there you are, where were you 15 minutes ago when I needed you. Courage, good guy just not too punctual. Love those rants

Springtime in Vienna...Gord has cited that as a special favourite...can anybody explain why? It never seemed especially inspired to me.

As for the whole problem of reconciling the concept of 'Hip fan' with someone who doesn't like every single thing they've ever done---that seems like a strange 'problem' to me. These guys are a great band, but come on, even The Beatles and Hank Williams laid a few eggs. I don't think enjoying someone's work requires you to surrender your critical faculties. In fact, if I were an artist, I'd be more interested in people who have their own minds about my stuff. Confusedcratch:

I'll raise a glass of milk to that.
