That's absolutely not true and was not the case on this tour in Ontario.
Hundreds of people who chose not to support stub hub and bought at the box office in Toronto are probably quite happy with their choice

Now that the tour is over I am interested to hear what people paid on secondary market, especially if anyone bought for Kingston on day of show.
This is my first post here, so do please excuse me if I bugger it up...
After failing to get any love from Ticketmaster, I fed the beast and bought from Stubhub. I was away and without internet access when tickets first went on sale, so I was fairly desperate. I desperately wanted to make sure I didn't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity and I really wanted to see a show in my hometown...and the final show at that.
So I paid about $500CAD (after fees and exchange rates) for the Sunday show in Toronto, and had a lower bowl seat. It was, without a doubt, the worst seat I've ever had at a Hip show. I generally insist on floor seats, but I just couldn't afford to spend any more and I was desperate to have a guaranteed seat for the show so I didn't want to wait for prices to maybe, possibly come down.
I do not regret having paid that much for a seat that wasn't so great. I got that (last) night in Toronto, and it was worth every penny. I absolutely regret my choice to buy a hat instead of a t-shirt but when I finally got to the front of the merch line, I was too stunned to make a good choice lol. If I could do any of it over, I'd have purchased one of the blue/purple-ish Man Machine Poem t-shirts with the Paisley sort of design but that's a pretty petty and insignificant regret in the grand scheme of things!
It seems like I spent a lot of money for a crappy seat, but I wanted to shout my thank-you, I love you and goodbye (and dance with abandon to a live Hip show one last time) so it was money well spent.

It's great to see that so many people got lucky with day-of tickets for most shows. I understand it varied by city, but there were a couple hundred drops for all Toronto shows.
Interestingly, in Kingston the day before the show, a box office rep went on local (and I'm assuming national) news to state in no uncertain terms that there would be no day-of tickets released at the K-Rock Centre box office. Lo and behold, Saturday morning rolled around and there was a ticket drop at the box office. Something like 200 fans who chose not to believe the announcement ended up getting in for the show.
