I would haveFC low as well, mostly for the production quality...but I also think, that in this "overratted/underrated" world we live in, it's VERY overratated....

It grabbed me the second i heard it, and it hasn't let go...the pure rawness of itlyrically i LOVE it...josephine is pure fucking heaven...for me, it's Gords best work ,along with 11th fret..It's an album that picks me up when I'm feeling down...

Have to agree. Josephine is definitely one of my all time favourite Hip songs.

I really don't like the "masterpiece" title. What entales a masterpiece? A lot of people don't like Pink Floyd and don't like Dark Side. Does that mean it's not a masterpiece.
I think Chris Cornell's first solo album, Euphoria Morning, is one of the best albums of all time. That doesn't mean it's a masterpiece? It was torn apart by critics. Does that mean it wasn't a masterpiece?
So does it go by record sales? Britney Spears has had loads of #1 songs and albums. Does that mean her albums are masterpieces?
So what's to say IBE isn't a masterpiece?

That's reversing the burden of proof. You want to call it a masterpiece, it's up to you to make the case.
If everything is a masterpiece until proven guilty, then mastery is commonplace -- which is, by definition, false.
This is why words like "masterpiece" are becoming meaningless: rather than accept that there is a critical consensus, people toss out the usual canards and declare that something is a masterpiece if they feel it to be so based on nothing more than their personal taste.
Since everyone's tastes differ, everything becomes a masterpiece.

It's not that everything is a masterpiece until proven otherwise, it's that everything is just an album and a masterpiece in certain people's eyes. I love Floyd and think Dark Side is a masterpiece. My wife thinks it's junk but I still think she's a masterpiece.
I agree that terms like masterpiece and dynasty (moreso in sports) are greatly abused. The thing is - there's no credible ranking system in order for an album to obtain masterpiece status. What's left besides album sales? And I refuse to live in a world where a Britney Spears album is considered a musical masterpiece. But that's just my personal taste.
