I'm going to defend my love of Coconut Cream and Butts Wigglin', but also know they're gonna be the first to go.

i don't actually hate coconut cream . . . its fine you know, but definitely the worst on this album.

I have found that rearranging the tracklist to have coconut follow flamenco has helped, i've always hated the way they set it up

Springtime
ABAC
DWD
Flamenco
Coconut
Engaged
700 ft.
Butts
Apartment
Sherpa
Put It Off

so much better.

coconut is so jarring you might as well have it follow the most beautiful and subdued song on the record. the jarring then feels purposeful instead of just, you know, grating.

Apartment Song has got to be some of the most advanced, Einstien-esk songwriting ever...who ever would have thought about cups and saucers getting sleep before the jingling of the keys being in a great song????

I think the purists are going to find themselves crying over an early exit for "Put it Off". It's racking up enough early votes that I (unfortunately) don't see it making the final three. There is a good chance that the final five will be the first five tracks on the album, and if I was to have my way, the final three would consist of the first three tracks.

"Giftshop will go for being bloated and overrated"? I know you didn't really mean that. I've been waiting for your publicist to issue a statement retracting those comments but it's the weekend so I figure you'll have something prepared for Monday morning. Big Grin

There is not an ounce of fat on that track. It's 5 minutes of bliss and if I have one complaint it's that the coda is not long enough! It contains some of Rob's finest work. Lyrically, it doesn't hold up to the likes of ABAC, but I think it would be worthy of a top three finish.

Well, count me among the heretics who think "Gift Shop is bloated and overrated"...not that it's bad by any means, just too long and not nearly as exciting or interesting as its many defenders appear to think. :wink:
