my bad!! back in 1991 i was working as a DJ in a small bar in Midland...i had the responsibility to book acts.....i could spend $6,000 to bring in a top Canadian band....The choices...Frozen Ghost and The Tragically Hip...i have been kicking myself in the ass for 15 years for making the wrong choice...i chose Frozen Ghost....now you have to remember...15 years ago..Frozen Ghost was more popular than The Hip...just goes to show that 15 years ago The Hip were only $6,000.....my apologies to everyone for making the WRONG choice.....

Did they say how they got to that number? I think its pretty low but who knows how his finances are set up.
I dont care if they they make 10 000 a year or 1 million. I would still like them the same.
If they charge 250 grand a show, good for them.

The issue is about who makes what, and the figures are based on publicly listed figures, and best guesstimates...
But I agree with you, charge all that they want, as long as people continue to show up.

There is no way that in 1991 Frozen Ghost was more popular than the Hip. Road Apples was released in 91. Up to Here had probably sold 500 000 copies by then. Chris you could confirm Maybe?

Oh, and just to get it back on topic, if I had $250,000 in entertainment money available to me, I'd book the Hip. Heck, I'd even throw in a deli tray and couple cases of beer. Hell, make it imported beer.

Just a little math today. They are playing Artpark in Lewiston,NY on June 17th for 4,400 people at $49.50 each = $217,800. I would think that the venue gets a take of that and so does the ticket company. So if I had to guess the Hip probably make about $75,000 before expenses are taking into account.
I'm sure at large Canadain Venues they might get $250,000 if you figure $50 a ticket x 20,000 ppl = $1,000,000 then they are getting a 1/4 of the gross ticket sales plus all merch sales not a bad nights work.
So for you hipbasers that want to throw that private party with The Hip I would say the best thing to do is book it in the States . My backyard is always open I'm only 1-1/2 hours from downtown TO and will even supply the Beer and chicken wings.
