Yes that is a big part of the problem, service charges!

Facility 1.50
Convenience 9.50
order processing fee 3.50

$14.50 in service charges per ticket!
I am stoked. Bought my tix this morning.

I dont think the price was that high considering the smallish venue and it was open to hipclub members only.

Besides, didnt we ask for this? I think many of us said we would pay higher prices for this privilege.

The Commodore Ballroom website says capacity is 900.
900x$60=$54,000 split 5 ways, minus expenses. Seems like they aint really making that much if you ask me.

By Comparison say 20,000 x $60 = $1,200,000 for a coliseum show at the same price. Some crappy bands have ticket prices twice this amount.

You do the math.
No, wait, I just did.
It's funny how much bands can make off of concert today.
Paul McCartney sold 40,000 copies of Chaos in the Backyard in Canada which brought in less revenue than his 1 night concert at ACC where he made $2Mil.
With some tickets costing $225 it makes sense. Artistss aren't selling as many albums due to the net and file sharing so they need to look to other streams of revenue.

$70 to see the Hip is expensive but all shows are.
$55 to see jurassic 5 at the Commodore
$100 CAD to see Tool in Seattle

I will admit it was great paying $30 to see Sam Roberts but Artists need to make thier dough

I have to disagree there. I think the net is the new radio, and it helps spread the music more and helps sales. I find the net has broadened my music tastes, and I buy singles off of itunes. The music industry has not taken into account that they used to sell cd's of Britney type music because people had no way of getting the one track they wanted. Now with itunes they can just buy the tracks they want ala cart.
Hi All, I just want to ask that you come and say hi at the shows that weekend. I will be wearing my Avatar, so I will be easy to spot. If I have my camera with me I will be doing some interviews for the hipbase video podcast. Make sure you wear your hipbase tshirts!
here we go....

one of our reps lol, it's like a real company then I guess....
That week is one heck of a concert week... i dont think i am gonna have any hearing left by the time its done.

Sam Roberts In Victoria.
SRB @ The Commodore
Hip @ The Commodore
Wolfmother @ Richards on Richards. then Arctic Monkeys @ The Commodore right after.

Does that week get any better!

My bet is Sam Roberts will be opening for the Hip @ The Commodore.

See yah there gang!

Rock on!

CW
Hey irish hip guy, I was thinking about the artic monkey's also.

See ya there!
Looks Like Harper is out, the thought was great though

You know what would make it awesome if the hip screwed the thought of an openner and just played two sets like in 2000 when they did the music at work tour. That would make the 70 buck ticket more bareable

Anyone has any guesses on their opener we should have a contest or a hipbase poll

i am geussing matthew good, he is playing again, from vancouver and has opened for the hip in the past 1995 at MLG

Let the games begin
With less than a week to go, are any other folks from here taking in one or both of these gigs? I cleaned up the lists at the start of this thread.
If anyone is interested there is an extra ticket to Vancouver available in the ticket exchange section
I have 1 ticket for each day for the Sasquatch, large discount will apply!!!!
Not sure what my schedule will be, but was thinking that I might have time to have a beer before the show. I don't know the area, so I don't have a location/bar in mind that's easy to get to. . . . but time permitting, I'm into it.

Anybody know the area and can Reccomend a location?

MAv.
I remember there is not much around there for miles.

There is a beer gardens outside the front gate.
