Hey,
The Wheat Kings, a Hip cover band is coming through my town in June and other towns throughout the GTA in the next few months, just to let you know. I can't wait to see them, and am just wondering if any of you guys have ever seen them and what to expect from them?
Thanks :thumb:
Musically, expect a lame alternative to the real thing...but as long as you self-medicate yourself with copious amounts of alcohol I'm sure you'll have a really good time...Nothing personal against this particular cover band or any other hip cover band but until the Hip officially call it a day (heaven forbid) I won't be attending any cover shows.

Have a good time though!!!
I think that they refer to themselves as a tribute band... not a cover band. I know, it may just be semantics, but when I last saw The Wheat Kings I had a great time. Hearing The Hip's music played by other musicians is still better than much of the crap that gets played at your local bar.
I'd rather see The Hitchiking Guru's any day, Sudbury's finest Bar Band.

they do killer versions of NOIS (exteneded jam with "Shakin All Over" thrown in), Little Bones, Werewolf Baby, Cordelia, The Wherewithal, and Blow At High Dough, not to mention some CCR, Ramones, Metallica, Sabbath, Johnny Cash, Pearl Jam, Headstones, Guns 'n' Roses, The Doors, and all the other greatness.
Hey TDC, could you enlarge that graphic in your sig? The guys over in the roadway design side of the office can't quite see it clearly.

MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP!

there's something about that Lucky 13 that makes players more valuable

i knew deep down you were a closet leafs fan!! Tongue
i was referring to A-Rod, the reigning American League MVP...and to a lesser extent Dan Marino...

Sundin is a Olympic gold medalist now, i'll give him that...he must be a great golfer now too after all those seasons spent with Toronto Tongue!

Having spent many a drunken night in Sudbury growing up on the mean streets of the "South End", where would one go in town now to even see a good "bar band"?? Is the Townhouse still cranking out good music?
The Townhouse had The Trews for 2 nights in March...I don't mind them so I guess that place is still cranking out some good music.

So very True... but the Lead singer has retired to the West I believe. He really loves the Doors - The West Is The Best..
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT waste your time going to see the Wheat Kings. I have seen several HIP cover bands or tribute bands and the Wheat Kings are pretty brutal. Especially the vocals. You are better off going to a kareoke night, seriously! A good HIP cover band is Little Bones, they usually only play the Ottawa area, and the best one by far as I've said on here countless times in several similar posts, is THE ROAD APPLES who are the only band that sounds exactly like the HIP and have a cool stage presence. But good luck trying to find them. They only do shows once in a blue moon. And usually just in Kingston or Westport. But if anybody knows when the Road Apples are playing, please let me know! I'm there!

yup, the road apples were my first hip cover experience, and by far the best....beer tent at the fair about 10 years ago in london.....
These guys aren't band either. I booked them back in '91 a couple times. Check out this video link of them with Mr. Lahey from the Trailer Park Boys doing his rant . . .
