Looks like another attempt to cash in, like the recent Dan Brown/da Vinci Code lawsuit. If the guy wants royalties as the story says, he's essentially claiming songwriting credit. Reminiscent of the lawsuit against Sarah McLachlan after Surfacing made a pile of money.
I don't understand how this works? He was paid his $35US an hour to do his job? How does that intitle him to the credit for the bands success?
Its the American way. Just wait until I become famous for my "Men of the Sewage Plant" calendar. All these scrubs I call friends will be all over me for cash.

Typical bullshit, someone gets famous than gets sued. I dont know all the details, but I dont see the Stripes losing out on this one.

Well, he wouldn't be entitled to royalties unless he was the author of some kind of intellectual property. So it looks to me like he's after songwriting credit for "helping to create their sound."
Remember the lawsuit against Sarah McLachlan? It was someone going after her for songwriting credit.
Because that's where the money is.

This case was clear cut, but some are less so, particularly if it involves fellow band members. Although Robbie Robertson receives the credit (financial and otherwise) for writing most of the Band's songs, Levon Helm claims that what Robbie brought to rehearsal was far from finished and, in fact, everyone helped in the creation of the final product, but received no credit for it.
It's my understanding that in order to avoid this very kind of situation The Hip have had from the beginning an agreement that says no matter who contributes what to a song all 5 members will share equally the songwriting credit. An interesting arrangement, if true. Can anyone confirm this?

I've read, and heard, this many times. If you check the albums (except the EP), it always lists "The Tragically Hip" as the songwriter, and there are 5 "company names" listed as the publisher.
