I loved the Rocket, he's my favorite hockey player of all-times so Im really looking forward to this movie. I dont think you have to be a Habs fan to really enjoy it, just a hockey fan. So I encourage all to see it, it looks well done.

I saw a commercial the other day for it, and I hope its a success. It will be interesting to see how much money this film makes state side. It's sad when Scary Movie 4 will probably do better than The Rocket.
I am really excited to see this. Hopefully it will play in a theatre somewhere close to me since it is in limited release.

One thing that the Leafs lack big time which the Habs have done very well is cultivate the legends of their stars from bygone eras.
I've read in the past that Maurice Richard practically saved the Habs - as prior to his arrival the Habs were a struggling franchise and were in trouble financially, and people in Quebec thought of hockey as an English Canada game, but #9 changed all that. Certainly makes for a compelling story.

At this point, the Leaf glory days are so distant that, well, they've finally been browbeaten into raking out the ashes where the fire of hope once burned. Pretty hard to get excited about a team's history when everything worthwhile happened over 40 years ago.
In Montreal they kept the success going enough that people can still have faith. But Ballard screwed the Leafs.

the sad thing is that scary movie 4 will probably make more in its opening weekend(40 mil) than the rocket does over the course of its release in the states. i saw a long preview that showed before lucky number slevin & it looks like it will be very good

IMDB has nothing about a release date for the U.S.
I think the movie looks pretty good, but unfortunately Canada is the only country where it'll make any money. People in the U.S. will avoid it like the plague for three reasons:
1. It's about hockey
2. It's not an American film.
3. It doesn't star any recognizable Hollywood names.
can't wait to see this, on the Christmas holidays i read a book called Maurice Richard: Reluctant Hero, and it was a great read. it documented his entire career, all of his accomplishments in the nhl, his family life from his childhood and on, it was very inspirational...he might not be the greatest hockey player of all time (although he may be), BUT, he is the greatest hockey legend of all time, by far, i don't think any man ever meant as much to so many in the history of hockey, and possibly all of pro sports, as the Rocket did to his fans.

Well said, I read that book too and it was great. He was an amazing hockey player, the best power forward ever maybe, he'd carry three guys on his back to the net all the while getting slashed and punched and still score. Ive never seen such determination and speed and strength. Not only did he score goals like crazy, he wasn't afraid of anyone and would drop the gloves. Ive always been impressed at how much he meant to Montrealers, they just loved him and his spirit is still alive and strong there. Ill never forget the standing ovation he recieved when the closed the forum, it was something else.
everytime i think of the Rocket, i think of "The Sweater"...and that poor little french boy in his leafs jersey, praying that the moths would eat it...
I had an autographed stick of his..."had" being the key word....it burn up in a fire. He was a man among boys.
