This may be a bit late in posting --- but I'm going in for an MRI tomorrow & I'm feeling a bit nervous. I know 3 things - it's a closed MRI, it will last aprox. 45 minutes, and I can bring a CD (hip of course).

Have any of you had one before?... I've heard horror stories from a couple friends while others have had no problems.

Anyway, fingers crossed that nothing weird shows up. I'm sure it will be fine.
Thanks All.
I've had one. It wasn't all that bad. I thought the hardest thing was to stay still, but there are breaks in between those periods to move if you need to. It's not too fun, but it's not too bad.
i ve had a few they will cover you up and give youy headphones to listen to your cd or the radio they can also talk to you , the machine should be open at both ends just relax and listen to music it will be over before you know it

Ive had 3, and it wasnt a fun experience thats for sure. Especially since I hate tight spaces and not being able to move. All I did was close my eyes and not think about it, and I was ok. Im sure you'll do fine.

Good luck, hope the results are good.

I hear you Mr. because that's exactly how I feel. Anyway, I'm off. UGHHH...
Go get em....you'll do just fine. Hope all works out for ya!!!

I've had a couple, and although it was somewhat uncomfortable being in the small space, it's a non-invasive scan, and as such there's not much to be nervous about.

What horror stories have you heard?

You put on headphones/insert ear plugs, lie on a bed, and chill out for the better part of an hour. Unless you've got all kinds of metal in your body, in which case they wouldn't do an MRI, you won't feel a thing.

Aside from the confinement of a closed MRI, they are actually better than open MRIs because they use a stronger magnet which allows for a more detailed image... giving the doctor a better look at whatever it is they are looking at.
I decided to dip in from work today to let ya know how it went. Unfortunately, the damn thing was so loud that I could never hear the CD playing. Anyway, after all was said and done - I was more than willing to get up & take off. Not exactly a pleasant experience in my book - especially not one worth repeating. That being said, I got back to work & got on with my day. About an hour ago, I got into my office to see a blinking light on my phone. Sure enough, it was a message left only an hour after I left from having the MRI done...saying that they want me back in ASAP for more. I guess because I called so late - the technician went home & now I have to wait for an early Monday Morning spot.
I just wanted to say thanks for the good thoughts. My nerves for sure are a bit on edge about it...but whaddya gonna do.

Now, I must do the weekend wait game.
Thanks again Base.

My thoughts are definetly with you! I hope everythings turns out fine. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about (even though I know its hard not you). Just be strong, I know you can do it!
awww youll be fine just think happy thoughts......and dont look at the big centipede eating a mouse thing, that wont help...
Best of luck to you Sarah. I'm sure all will turn out fine in the end. Keep the faith!
here's to one more cross of the fingers.
thanks y'all.
short and sweet - i have a couple blown discs in my neck - btwn c4-5,c5-6, c6-7. they want me to go back and get yet another mri for my hip and/or lower spine (i'm not sure which one yet). the pain there is just getting worse. let alone going without a pain pill - forget about it. and the thing is, i don't want to be on pills, at least not heavy duty painkillers.

long story short. i was a passenger in a car that was hit back in mid-feb. the other car actually hit my door, thus my right neck/shoulder/arm/back/hip/leg have been hurting ever since. i've been to many dr's over the last couple months. chiro, md's, etc. some have just slapped me on the shoulder - smiled and said its nothing - they've given me pain pills and said get some rest. some have taken me more seriously.

my question to you all. have any of you been in a similar situation? where do i go now - maybe a orthopedist for my hip? a neurologist for the pain still shooting down my arm and leg? i guess my thing has been this, i don't like taking pain medication - this is looking like it's going to be turning into a chronic pain situation and i'm scared of taking major painkillers for long durations of time.

my job is really being affected by all of my dr visits - let alone the pain. my focus has been for shit. it doesn't help that i'm the director of my dept and my boss is offering no support. days seems to run into each other with dr vist to the next - trying to make up for work lost, etc, etc, etc.

sorry about my rant. i'm just tired of all of this...and frankly i'm scared of what they might find in the next series of scans. i really think i've had a good attitude about all this stuff so far - but after getting the results - i don't know. i think i'm in a fog.

another thing that i'm not sure about is bc this is a result of a car accident - it's all through insurance claims etc. bills, time lost, claims, fighting with insurance - it's a nightmare. i guess it's just that it feels so open-ended. will they contact me and say we're not covering anything anymore?...you're on your own from now on. do i get a lawyer to protect myself. there has been nothing easy about this.

advice anyone?
thanks,
sar
Ya, I've had a few.....I've almost fallen asleep in a couple of them. You just gotta pretend you're sleeping! Close your eyes, deep breaths
I just hope you're not claustrophobic.

Hope all goes well.
