I'm thinking 6-1 Sens. Man, it's been a long time since I've felt this way about the Leafs in early March. Sad

4-2 Sens. So you were a little bit off.

The worst part about that game? For the most part, the Leafs played pretty good. If the Leafs can play a good game and still not beat a contending team (not to mention one of their biggest rivals), then it's pretty much time to face facts, isn't it? This Leaf team is not a playoff team. Cry

So, John Ferguson Jr., you have your work cut out for you this offseason. Can you remake the Leafs into a contender? Leaf Nation will be watching...

Not too many have mentioned it, but I for one think he should be one of the first to go when the Leafs start to rebuild. Maybe the changes he makes Thursday (if any) will change my mind. I doubt it, but we'll wait and see.
You leaf fans must love punishment. You keep coming down here, helping our economy and selling out high priced games (sabres raised the prices 40%-60% for leafs games, non-season tickets) and always seem to leave with a big "L". Let the pain continue, I'll be there 3/16/06. We should have the whole lineup healthy by then.

GO SABRES! Tongue
I just hope they dont trade McCabe. Rebuild the defense around him, get rid of Bergand Belak they are dead weight.
And i think its time Sundin goes as well. How many years has he done nothing down the strech and in the playoffs.

I think I've made my point enough times to have to bother doing it again.

But I do find it funny that statements like these come within two weeks of Mats captaining Team Sweden to the gold medal at the Olympics. Kind of amazing what the guy can do when he's got some talent around him rather than guys named Kilger and Domi.

Truth be told, I kind of hope Mats gets dealt as well. I really want to see him win a Cup, and its clear that that isn't going to happen anytime soon in Toronto. Plus the complete lack of respect that he gets from too many fans of the Mythology of Gilmour makes it clear he'll never be truly appreciated for what he's done.

Kind of reminds me of this nonsense from Canuck fans:

Bertuzzi (23%) Scores as Fans’ Favourite Canuck - Linden Second (22%), Naslund Third (17%)

That's right sports fans! Canuck fans prefer Bertuzzi (speaking of guys who have done nothing in the playoffs) and a washed-up Trevor Linden, to their best player.
bert i don't understand as the fave..but linden i get..he does a shit-load of community work, he works his ass off every night, and would give his left nut for the nucks to win a cup....i know certain people on this board don't think he's worth shit anymore, but in todays day and age of spoiled millionaries,( and yes..i know linden gets payed too much as well), he's a breath of fresh air..a guy that gives back to the people..a guy that goes to see the sick kids in the hospital..to give them something to smile about in an otherwise crappy life...number 16 will be hung from the rafters when linden says goodbye, and i think it's well deserved

We've butted heads over Linden for as long as I care to remember, and it is great that he does a lot of charity work. But your comment that "he works his ass off every night" is comical to me. When I lived in Vancouver I probably went to about 15-20 'nucks games per year, and he took just as many nights off as anyone else. Hell, he had plenty of nights where he was as invisible as Jeff O'Neill has been this season for the Leafs.

But whatever. You love him. I get it.
Leafs 5, Habs 3.

Huge, HUGE win for the boys in blue tonight! Is this what the doctor ordered to spur the Leafs on to the playoffs? Or is this just false hope?

Who knows? All I know is, we just scored a win against our biggest historical rival, so I'm just going to enjoy this one at the expense of my fellow Hipbasers who cheer for Les Habitants. Tongue

Wow, one win and we're thinking playoffs again, eh? I still think the Leafs should be serious sellers at the deadline. Start by getting rid of McCabe. His stock will never be higher and the truth remains that the only thing he is good at is quarterbacking the power play. Kaberle is now the Leaf's #1 d-man. Pick up Pavel Kubina in the offseason. He and Kaberle worked very well together in Torino. Drop the team's dead weight: Antropov, Berg, Khavanov, Belak. Toronto has a very young and promising up-and-coming defense core from the Marlies. Finally, fire Quinn and bring in Paul Maurice.

Ah what can I say? I'm an eternal optimist.

Seriously though, I still don't think the Leafs are a playoff team... it was just nice to see the guys win a game.

I'm not sure I'd be so eager to trade McCabe, I think he's better than some give him credit for. I agree with the rest of your points, though... Kubina would be a great pick-up, the young d-men coming up from the Marlies are better than (or at the very worst, as good as) Berg, Khavanov and Belak, and Quinn not only may have run his course with the Leafs, he's not the ideal type of coach to oversee a rebuilding period.
