That's exactly my objection to the Stones, or at least a big part of it: evolve or die.

But the Stones will remain huge, thanks to equal doses of baby boom nostalgia and fans who like to see the same schtick recycled ... just as you can use the same teabags forever, as long as you keep using rusty water.

Horrible Esthethe, I agree about the Stones. I like a few albums but a lot of their stuff bores me. Still, they have influenced so many bands (our beloved Hip) and have written some GREAT CLASSIC songs. They deserve some respect. I LOVE NEIL YOUNG but even he put out some crappy records.
Cochise, I agree with you about the sound. I don't think it was the band's fault for the sound being bad. I thought they were at fault for some of it but most of the blame goes to the sound crew, technicians, whoever was responsible for instruments, speakers, and mics. Really though, who does sound good at the SB? It's not like a concert. You rush on stage and then rush off the field. The Hip don't sound nearly as good in tv or sports appearances as they do in concert. Anyone remember THE HIP and Live 8???? It wasn't Mick's fault that the mic wasn't turned up at the beginning...

Yeah, I just wish more fans would 'evolve' with the band. A lot of Hip fans don't even know the difference between Gord with the Hip and Gord with TCOM.

I don't think it would have mattered who played the halftime show- it would have been just as neutured thanks to Janet Jackson's tit show last year. But seriously, one of the first things I said was how good Mick's bod looked; for 60-odd whatever he's in good shape, especially considering everything he's put it through.
It should have been a Motown thing though.
As a side note: I was downtown Detroit for all that crazy partying on Saturday night. Between the cold and chilling wind, the wet heavy snow and beers and food, today is the first day I've felt back to my normal self. We took the bus over at 2pm and didn't get back across until around 12 on our last legs.... lol.
Oh- and I thought the Stones didn't get paid for the SB gig- not true?
I'm not that big of a fan but I'll listen to the famous ones, my favourites are "Start Me Up" (I love the opening riff), Paint It Black, Don't Stop, Satisfaction.
I went to the SARS relief concert, and I wasn't to impressed with it, except for the other groups. The Guess Who, Rush, and AC/DC were awesome. Justin Timberlake sucked.
Just to be clear, I personally didn't claim that the Stones latest album is one that nobody bought or heard of... I'm recalling what someone else wrote somewhere. And unfortunately I've forgotten who wrote it or where, so I can't provide a link to back me up. Anyway, like I said I just wanted to clarify this, for what it's worth.
As for sound quality, part of the problem may be that certain lyrics were censored out due to the 5-second delay in the airing of the Super Bowl telecast. The line, "You make a dead man come" from Start Me Up was censored out, as well as another line from Rough Justice (not sure which one). The fact these lines would be censored out is ridiculous of course, but part of what we have to endure with SB halftime shows now due to "Nipplegate".

I love how Neil just abandoned CSN and went to David Briggs and said "I gotta make a rock record". Then enlisted Ralph, Billy, Nils, and Ben Keith to make the most raw record every produced. Then he went on tour and had a great time with the band, even though the crowds reacted sourly to this new direction. Can you imagine going to see "Heart of Gold" and "After the Gold Rush" and listening to "Tonight's the Night"? Neil's best friend that tour was Jose Cuervo. The crowds didn't know what they were in for. Pure, raw, drunk out of his boots Neil Young. :thumb:
J-Monster, I'm sure someone did say those things about the record. I wasn't coming after you or anything. I don't think the album is revolutionary but I do think it is a pretty decent album.

Yeah, to see one of those "Tonight's the Night" shows would have been spectacular. They had various stage setups that were wacky and just plain wierd, including hubcaps, big glitter boots, a wooden indian, etc..... :lol:
To be honest, I haven't heard all of "Time Fades Away". From what I've read in the book it's one of the least fun times of Neil's music career.
As for the Stones, "Start Me Up" is a great tune. The best part of the Moncton show was the first few strums from Keef on that song to begin the show. :thumb:
