Hey guys, was wondering if there was ever any pics or write up about the gear Paul and Rob use? On the new DVD I saw Rob playing through two Mesa (Lone Star?) standalones but was curious if there was anymore info out there. I know Paul uses Marshall but thats all I know haha.

EDIT: see my last post below
might as well post a pic of my gear

Sweet Lester!!!

Here is another thread that discussed the Hip's gear as well as a link to their recording studio which gives a detailed description of all of their goodies.

thanks for the link. Not much info, can anyone add to what we have already? Ever figure out what Line 6 Paul had?
was there ever a picture of Pauls balck Les Paul? He is funny because he only uses one guitar. So Im assuming the Black LP was too beat up for the road so he retired it
Paul has a variety of guitars that I've seen him use in concert. A few of different Les Pauls I recall are Black, Tobacco Burst, and Cherry Burst. And a few acoustics.
I know that Rob has a couple of Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Specials - one black and one white.
OK, quick update here. Im in the process of getting a new amp and I want a 2x12 combo stand alone. Im looking at the Masrhalls TSL series and DSL series.

But does anyone know what Mesa Rob plays through? It looks like a Lone Star but Lone Stars arent that color. Maybe Mav you could confirm this? Any help would be great thanks!
I believe Rob is playing through either a Lonestar or Heartbreaker, though I can't seem to remember which.

As for the Marshalls, I'm a fan of the TSL series myself. I've been playing shows for the past 6 months or so with my TSL100 head and it's been a workhorse night in and night out. The extra channel is also a great addition. I didn't get to check out the combo amps at all, but I've heard and read good things so far.

Thanks D-man!

When I test drove the TSL combo's the third channel was kinda weak so I just assumed a DSL would be better and simplier. My thought process was to get a combo so I dont have to lug a half stack

To be honest, the half stack is over kill if you're not gigging regularly. I really like the power dampening feature on it for around the house.

I'm going out to a guitar shop today to check a few things out, so I'll let you know my thoughts when I get back...

I am being told a 4o watt tube is strong enough to gig with but if your playing with a guy and half stack I think it would be hard to compete. But I agree, so I need to do research for some good combos
I guess we hijacked this thread a while back, however, this board needs a good gear thread.

The guitartist I play with plays a 65 watt solid state amp live. Usually it holds up (depending on the sound setup), but I think he needs to upgrade. It's all a matter of personal preference really.
I have that Line 6 pictured above, its loud but that’s about it. I want to get a Marshall DSL, just need to find the money

The guitarist that I jam with has a 40 watt Traynor tube amp (2x10 combo) and I use a Mesa Dual Rectifier (head & 4x12 Recto cab) and we have never had a problem hearing him over me. I recently pulled 2 of the power tubes in my Recto, bringing it from 100 watts down to about 50 watts (100 watts of tube power was way more than I needed) and there have been times since then where the Traynor is louder than my Mesa, although I haven't had a chance to turn the Recto up past half volume since pulling the tubes because we have moved inside from the garage.
