But its their call of course.

I really hope they don't tour in support of a greatest hits CD, that would be a shame.
Well that was meant to be hypothetical...but if they did tour, who here would complain? Besides you.

Not complaining, just seems kinda Stonesish, like touring after 40 Licks just to make a bunch of cash. The Hip are supposed to release a new album in the spring or summer of next year, I would rather see them support that then the hits CD, both would be a little too much Hip in my opinion. You need to go away for a while so the main fan base gets that yearning to go see them again. That is why U2 shows are so successfull they only come around every 4 years or so.

ya man, this band sucks.

I didn't see anyone say the band sucks. Dumbass! 100 tool points for you.

Who the hell are you, band management? How the hell do you know when the band is gonna tour?? As a matter of fact, someone here emailed the band about possible tour plans for the best of release, and the reply clearly indicated they were working out tour plans for supporting HipEponymous. It stands to reason that if they have a new record out in 06, they'll tour it. Hence, you have no basis whatsoever for saying this.

NMAS Wrote:Its not an idiodic thing to say. I can say anything I like about this band. They have been my favorite band for the better part of 20 years which I can promise you is a lot longer than 90% of the people on this site.

Explain to me how this is in ANY way relevant to the subject. Sounds like pointless empty arrogant bragging to me.

NMAS Wrote:Ive supported everything they have ever done, so I have earned the right to say what I feel like saying, So I may not say things that are Hipolitically Correct on this site, I don't give a crap, I will say what I want. If I think the band does something that is crap then I will say it, If I think they are getting tired I will say it, if they release the best work of there life I will say that of course.

Please, PLEASE point out something someone said that is in any manner contrary to this. Guess what, bonehead - I'm entitled to my viewpoint too, and mine happens to be that yours sucks. Is that an attempt to thwart your sharing of it? If you honestly think so, you're simply not very bright.

Ok Mr. Lifelong Fan, time for a history lesson. In 1992, 1994 and 1996 The Hip released studio albums. In each year, they toured in support of those albums for the remainder of the year, clear across Canada. Mere months later, *with no new material to support*, the band toured Canada again and played in front of some of the biggest crowds of their careers. Yes, I know the ARA era was arguably the peak of their popularity. HOWEVER, it demonstrates that the band can indeed tour without having a new album to support. If you honestly think they can't pull it off, you're insane. They could tour canada this coming November and December and come right back in the summer of '06 and not miss a single beat.

Nevertheless, you have yet to illustrate a single legitimate reason for feeling the way you do. You think it's a shame for them to tour?? At least concede that simply putting that out there with no explanation would NATURALLY rub everyone here as a pretty unorthodox thing to say. Until you can adequately explain yourself, I have no choice but to think you don't make a damn bit of sense.

You know what you clown, you take everything way to serously.
All I am getting at is the band Toured for IBE last year, the Gretest Hits CD is this year and a new album is next year. They can't support a tour for each of those. I know you live in the States, but in Canada the Hip's popularity is declining ( nobody can deny that) not on this board of course but as a whole, they didn't sell out the last tour accross canada in some cities or in cities where they used to play a few shows they only played one, the album sales have dropped big time ( don't give me the downloading excuse) I think they need to slip away for a couple of years before they hit the road again. build up that urge that people get to see the Hip. remember I am not talking about people on this site who could go and see them every night if they had the chance, I was talking about the general fan base who may buy most records and will go see them every couple of years in a arena show, those people won't go to two or three concerts in a short period of time.
At the peak of the bands popularity maybe they would but not now. If the band does do an ARA again then I may have to eat my words. But that is a different entity. Yes they could do a tour in November and december and come back in the summer , but if it is a tour just with the band, there is no way it would draw as strongly as it would if they waited a year extra. YOur are talking as a pure direhard fan, which is great, you are an optimist, I am a realist I guess. Even too much Hip isn't a good thing.
I agree that using the word shame was a bad choice of word
Sorry to interrupt, but does the phrase "New Orleans is sinking and I don't want to swim" originate with the Hip song or predate it? I ask because the phrase is showing up in various articles regarding Hurricane Katrina and I'm curious to know if this is due to people quoting the Hip and then getting re-quoted or if it's just an existing phrase.

Maybe this is how they'll crack the U.S. Market Tongue Everyone will wonder who would sing a song about NOIS, then they'll all see what a wicked tune it is, then next thing you know they'll be on Leno/Letterman and so on and so forth, sorry, just trying to shed some optimism/humor on a sad heartbreaking situation...

This is the exact same thing i said to my friends after i saw it on tv....theyre finally getting some exposure in the States. they didnt really appreciate the humor though. its seriously a sad and devastating situation and I definitely wish all the best to the people down in N.O.

No doubt, watching the coverage of it on the news during the last couple nights was pretty surreal Confusedhock: Almost seems like total anarchy for the most part....

It is a brutal situation, looks like it is going to get a lot worse before it starts to get better.

That's absolutely crazy....Not that the tune got yanked (I agree with that gesture wholeheartedly), but that that one teeny little news report probably served as the first introduction to The Hip to more people than anything else the band has ever done.

Wow, you're an idiot.
I pitty the Fool that calls me an idiot. Idiot!
Relax guy I actually thought your Penn thing was pretty funny.
I turned the volume way up, but I still couldn't hear what Penn was saying. I'll tellya what it looks like he's saying -- it looks like he's saying "shut the fuck up", but that can't be right.

He's actually saying "Give me a second grace" or, alternately, "Give me a second face" which is a line from a Nick Drake song called "Fly." It's on Nick's album "Bryter Layter." Gord has previously demonstrated an enjoyment of Nick's music by referencing "Pink Moon" in the end jam of ABAC on numerous shows.

I just listened to the snippet of this tune Gord sings (if you can call it that - more like "yelps") on 11.27.04 and it's definitely this song. he goes on to say "I've fallen far down / the first time around / Now I just sit on the ground in your way." He takes another stab at it the following night with similar results.

Not trying to rain on your parade; I just thought you may want to know. I love Nick Drake's music, and I had never heard of him before Gord "introduced" me to him.
