Yeah 3 people got shot around the superdome, guys are taking cars that were just abanonded on highways...it's insane.
Terrible that in a natural disaster like this that people would resort to looting clothing and jewelry stores and shooting others as this is going on... just shows that sometimes these things bring out the worst in some people.
My thoughts are with all those that were struck by Katrina. This is really, really bad. Houses were literally pulled apart. A casino in Mississippi was uprooted and floated a mile and a half away all in one piece...pretty crazy. There is no drinking water and it is very very hot outside. The coast gaurd continues to work through the night to rescue people from attics and rooftops. It is a sad situation. I feel bad sitting here watching it on TV from the comfort of my own couch. Hopefully they will recover from this.

I had a road trip planned to the Super Dome and a french quarter hotel (Maison Dupuy) for the Saints Bills game on October 2nd. There is no way this game takes place in NO after looking at all the damage. Who knows what will happen. Is there even an airport to land at? I guess losing a couple of plane and football tickets is minor details compared to getting a whole house swept away or losing a family member.
Anybody want a super trippy moment courtesy of Lord Brazle?

(I'm not starting an internet business or trying to sell you drugs.)

Watch the shit on the news about good ol' Orleans and listen to NOIS.
I did that this morning and parts were actually going along with the song.
Scared the shit out of me.
welcome back Brazle

I cant believe people are looting its just wrong.

Indeed.

I have business contacts in Kingston, Jamaica -- no, I'm not in that business, even for medical purposes -- and whenever they get hit by a hurricane looting is a major concern.

That's one reason people refuse to leave their homes: fear that they'll come back to find all their stuff stolen.
oh well. i just pray for the best for these ppl! that is freaky with the NOIS! CRAZY!

The city will probably never recover, it may be inhabitable forever.

Except you can still see the roof tops sitting out of the water.
I don't know why you would go back and rebuild when the same thing could easily happen again, with Global warming and the increasing amount of storms coming during hurricane season, this type of thing is going to happen again before to long.

Oh, come now. It's one of the most culturally rich cities in the world. It'll recover - count on it.

If there's one good thing about America's stubborn pride in its way of life, it's that it refuses to lie on the ground and admit defeat.

That may be true, but the toxins that are soaking into the soil might be more than America's pride can overcome.
So, after the levee broke, my friends house is gone, the water is still coming in each high tide -

She is in a hostel in Layfayette and will probably be there another 6 - 10 days. She has no idea where her boyfriend is, he stayed at the house. She says she is not sure what to go back to, but she will. She's a nurse so, she'll have plenty to do..

NOLA is very rich in culture, but very poor - (personally I think that is why it does have it's personality) I am worried that when it does come back, much of that flavor will be gone do to the infux of Federal funds and opportunistic people grabbing up an chance at cheap property.
