Actually, it was Jeremy Taggart (OLP) who was sitting directly behind Michael Cohl during the announcement (see http://www.ctv.ca/canada for the presser), but I laughed out loud when I heard that they would be included, so I'm not surprised...
Apologies Casey...I guess you must have been watching CBC's coverage instead of CTV's...different angle, same response...

Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea (right) listens as promoter Michael Cohl announces Canada's Live 8 concert.
Weird thing. I just checked out www.live8live.com and on the list of artists for "Toronto" (not Barrie) they don't have a link to the Tragically Hip, but they do for every other act. Maybe there was some confusion as to whether they were going to be on or not. But its set for sure now. Hmmmm, Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Philadelphia and .....Barrie....(one of these things just doesn't belong here....)

The links are wrong/mixed up for some of the Canadian acts as well. Click on BNL and you get Bryan Adams.... Blue Rodeo gets BNL.
So if it's not going to be broadcasted on television which we're not sure about yet, who's going to tape this thing? I think a dvd of the whole day would kick some serious ass!! I wonder how much playing time each band will get considering there's like 20 acts or something.
Supposed to be from 11:00am to 8:00pm. Barrie has a noise by-law which was supposed to be lifted for this event, but don't know how long it's been extended. 19 acts in 9 hours. I can see everyone getting half hour-45 minutes, maybe some of the earlier sets being 20-25 minutes.

Quote:For those who can't make it to the show, the entire Canadian edition will be broadcast live on CTV. Highlights from the concerts around the world will also be part of the unprecedented 12-hour broadcast scheduled to end in a primetime special of the day's highlights.
im sure they will showcase some of the hips songs but i am skeptical in beleiving they'll show the entire set... we can only hope.
I thought they would of done a payperview thing for sure, but free is good!
Man....I just heard that Gordon Lightfoot will be there too. The concert of the year, and I'm in Ottawa for a wedding that weekend

They may have an agreement to not have ANY commercials during the broadcast which has happened in the past, and may have happened at the original Live Aid. So let's hope so that those of us that can't make it to T.O.....err....I mean Barrie, won't miss a single note from the boys.

Live 8 is not a fundraising or for-profit event; it is simply an event to raise awareness about ending poverty, so a PPV broadcast wouldn't make sense.
Although, how are they going to distribute "awareness" to the people in Africa that the concert is supposed to help?
It's now officially confirmed on thehip.com they are definately going to be there at Park Place in Barrie
My thoughts on the tv broadcast are that it'll be like the sars broadcast. They'll show some of the concert, a lot of awarness about poverty promoting, interviews, and maybe footage from the other venues. Don't expect to be watching all the hip songs. I remember a lot of people were annoyed with the coverage of the sars broadcast, be warned we could be in for the same thing.
Darnell
i remember live aid show a few songs from the bands i know that phil collins was in london and philly he flew the concord to be at both shows
i believe the whole thing was broadcast on abe myabe i am wrong

There are a few Live 8 threads going, so I don't know if this has been discussed but XM satellite radio is broadcasting ALL of the Live 8 shows.

Very cool... I hope one of our American friends can record this as XM isn't available in Canada yet.
I love the spelling mistake for the Canadian show - "Toronoto."
