This thread rules.
The worst Hip songs (which are still amazing songs) IMO are:
1. Tiger the Lion : I just never understood or became attached to this experiment, I respect that they tried something different, and i realize a lot of fans dig this track, for me I just didn't 'get' it.
2. Yawning or Snarling: Mostly because when singing along with DFN my friends and I would always joke around with this track cause it's a bit of a yarn...it doesnt have the ass kicking feel that the other tracks surrounding it do. However DFN would not be as rich as it is without this tune...
3. Are you ready and Summer is Killing Us, these two tracks are equally sucky...this is just my opinion though..
The Award for Most Improved Song goes to Heaven is a Better Place today...Gordie Sells that song live, oh man, such a killer track that I couldnt figure out until I saw it performed, the album version doesnt do it justice.
I get chest pains seeing people select Summer's Killing Us, Use It Up and Throwing Off Glass.....These tunes are sweet! :rambo:
I love Throwing off Glass, its not everyones cup of tea I suppose, I know it took me a lot of listens before I really got it, but I think its a beautiful song, and I recall GD saying it was his favorite off IVL also! To each is own, I think I over-reacted earlier, my apologies to KWT, Ive reflected on this thread and I recant, Im still not crazy about comparing songs among themselves, it just seems like a pointless adventure to me, thats all. :thumb:
Some of the less appealing songs to me:
The Luxury
Toronto #4
Silver Jet
Chagrin Falls
That's all I can think of right now actually.
It's funny, all the beating up on 'Silver Jet.' I'm not nuts for it either, but to me that's a solid Hip tune ruined by bad production---like a lot of other stuff on IVL. I don't think the rather obtuse lyrics help, either. Still, as a SONG, it seems OK to me.
'Summer is Killing Us'---love it, especially when Gord's voice snaps at the end followed by that WHOOO!---the whole song is so completely whacked. But I can see why people hate it. It's definitely pushing the envelope, that's fer sure. :jump
No worries, LizardKing. It's all in the name of talkin' Hip, my friend. :thumb:

Silver Jet's an ok song musically and there are parts of it lyrically that are mindblowing "let us now praise famous men" etc but I think it suffers in popularity among hardcore Hip fans who love Dire Wolk, A Beautiful Thing and all the other radio-ignored songs on the end of the album.
almost time for an IVL appreciation thread methinks
First things first...
I don't think there's anything wrong with this thread, it's GOOD FUN. That being said, there are a few Hip tunes that I tend to skip from time to time because they don't float my boat, ya know. My list would have includded alot of M@W tunes had it not been for the M@W appreciation thread last week, it spent the weekend in my car and I've grown to appreciate a few more songs on that album now, but it's by no means a classic Hip record IMO.
Here are my picks of weak Hip tunes ...
Cemetery Sideroad
Another Midnight
Born in the Water
Lionized
Titanic Terrarium
the Rules
As I wind Down the Pine
Wild Mountain Honey
Leave
If New Orleans is Beat

I think we need an EP Appreciation Thread. No joke. Band growth is excellent but it is without direction if you forget your roots. In all honesty, I think Smalltown Bringdown and Last American Exit are fantastic tunes. Yet, the EP seems to get trashed a lot around here...
