I sometimes think about this and I realize how long have the stones been together? How many years have people made jokes about them like the "Steel Wheels" tour was the "Steel Wheelchair Wheels" tour. That was like in the late 80's early 90's and they're still going. Charlie is like turning 64 this year and is the oldest in the group. I can see the hip doing the same thing.
However, I do think it's somewhat selfish of me to think the hip will go on till they drop dead if that's what they want to do, I'm all for it and admire that. Just as long as they keep putting out good music.
They will call it quits one day, and that's okay. Just because something is great doesn't mean it should go on forever. However, right now, I don't think they're content to just let themselves be defined by what they have already done. They've got more creativity in them yet.
I can't believe we are giving this topic any type consideration and comment. So a band evolve's over their career and because their music is different then when they started, they are 'not as good', or should 'call it quits'. Give me a break.
Radio right now has sold out, and as for as I'm concerned is putting the music industry back years by chasing ratings and not quality music. The crap they are playing to please the record companies and their fabrications of so called bands makes me sick!!!
The Hip have integrity, intelligence, and vision which right now is rare in the music industry.

The Hip will be around for a long, long time and show that 2 bubble gum hit rock albums does not a career make!!!

He started the show by apologizing for sitting down to play. "I'm 79 years old," he said. "I got diabetes, bad knees, a bad back. Hair colour ain't too good either." Then he sang and played like he was still 20.
For my money, the Hip can keep on playing forever. If their music changes with the years, that's good. If people stop listening, that's up to them. Ponch is right. What's more important -- what the artist wants to do, or what the audience expects?

i agree...look at robert plant...he may not be anywhere near as popular as he was when he was in zeppelin, but the guy's 56 years old, has a new cd coming out..all new material, and is still touring the world to great reviews...
And the boys are only what, 39? So I'd say they are still in their prime, and have 10 years before we could say they are sailing off towards thier twilight or their career.
They are still young, and still current, and still Hip.
I long for seeing the band when they are as old as B.B. up on stage doing their thing. The Hip will probably never be as relevant and great as Neil Young or Bob Dylan but if they can play music into their 60's it will be a monumental achievement. I hope for longevity and I don't care if there are only a hundred fans of the band. I'll be a fan. There aren't many Dylans or Youngs or Jaggers or B.B. Kings or Howlin Wolfs who stay relevant into their older years. I'm hoping the Hip have a few fields left to plow and a lot more creativity left in them.

An absurd poll, indeed.
First of all, anyone with an ear for music should be able to affirm that a) the Hip have evolved, yet b) haven't lost a damn thing.
If they should ever feel burned-out, or experiencea drop-off in inspiration, motivation, or creativity, then by all means we fans should support any decision The Hip might make to discontinue, but it sounds like nothing could be further from the truth. Everything I've heard indicates that this band is more than content with the status quo.

I saw KISS twice, once on the reunion tour and once on the Psycho Circus tour, the ex-husband was a big fan. Anyway, they're all in their 50's and the music isn't exactly "Rock and Roll All Night" anymore, but it's not too bad, with exception of that crappy "alternative" album they put out.
The hip are like them in that their songs are classic and they will always have fans no matter what.

They put the 'alternative' album out around the time before Ace and Peter came back. I think it was around the time they did unplugged. So like probably around 1996? I don't remember the title of the album but I remember the ex-husband bought it and we both hated it no matter how much we love KISS.
AND NO I'm not comparing KISS to the hip
I was just giving them as an example of a band that has been around for a long time, still has a lot of fans, the members are pretty old as far as Rock standards go, and can still rock.
who cares what 102.1 thinks, the station would play back to back perry quomo songs if they thought thats what the kids thought was cool.
They're a flavour of the month station with no-cred.
