I don't get paid until Friday, at which point I'll have (low) dough to blow, so, has anybody heard 'Back to Me' yet, and if so, what's the scoop?
hock: even better. Excuse me, my sty needs cleaning.Stephen Dame Wrote:Pssst...
plot to knock off her guitarist-hubby has been scratched, repeat: scratched.
will attempt to win her heart with single rose, box of chocolates, and 1 litre of benzodiazepine knock-out chemical.
a further transmission will occur once we are happily wed.
this message will now self destruct.
P.S. Yeah, the album's decent, but her new press photos:hock: even better. Excuse me, my sty needs cleaning.

Of course that may change once new albums by Springsteen, Beck, and Matt Mays are released...but for now it's sitting firmly in my #1 spot.

Were you surprised at the amount of heart-break and angst still present in her work? I was expecting that stuff to subside with the new found success and romance in her life... maybe this shows I've still got a SHOT!
Seriously, the tone surprised me, but if that's what drives her to write great music, it sure as hell keeps working for her. Some real keepers on this disc.
The record's got some great riffs, catchy tunes and that voice... oh, that voice...

Regarding the tone of the album, she says the new record is mostly about old neighborhood haunts, memories, and the consequences of an 18-month tour. Here's some stuff from an interview I read yesterday in Xclaim Magazine:
"The last thing I would ever wanna do is a record about being on the road and how it sucked, because it didn't. It was really awesome. But the hardest part about being on the road for so long was knowing that when I was coming home I wasn't exactly going back to my old life anymore."
Edwards, now 26, grew up in Wakefield, QC and Ottawa. In the two years following Failer's release, she's gotten married (to guitarist and Back To Me producer Colin Cripps) and relocated to Toronto. The reluctance of the move is evident on one of the album's best tracks, "Copied Keys," in which Edwards acutely tracks her unease, singing "This is not my town and it will never be/ this is our apartment filled with your things/ this is your life/ I get copied keys."
"I think that song is the most accurate in terms of what I actually thought my songs were about on this record," she says. "It's all about dislocation and it really captures what it was like for me."

Her songwriting has really developed and her lyrics are just as dark, funny, and brutally honest as they were on her first album. Judging from the liner notes, she's used her live band on pretty much every song, which makes for a very tight & cohesive record with some awesome guitar work from producer/guitarist Colin Cripps. Overall I'd say it's a fantastic follow-up to "Failer".
Which reminds me, she's appearing on Letterman in exactly 1 hour (Calgary time)
