Here's a great review from the Onion:

"You said you like me in your memory. You've gotta be fucking kidding me."

My new favourite lyric. I'm gunna use that line, obviously the ladies dig it.

That's a great line, and in true Kathleen style she adds a nice big F-bomb for full effect. As you know, I had the pleasure of interviewing her once and then chatting with her backstage after her first headlining show at Barrymore's. The woman swears like a sailor, and it's beautiful. I love her!

I was thinking about that today after I posted that... I couldn't remember who I heard that from... but it WAS you!

The Sun ran a full front page photo of her (wind blown hair, sexy stare) last week, and even the accompanying short interview had a bunch of * and @'s in it. I guess that explains the name of her production company.

And ya know, if she TALKS dirty... okay... gotta find a cold shower.

And BTW, has a sadder, more hurtin' song than "Away" ever been written? The inflection in "I swear I never tried" makes me want to cry like cfern's baby.

Yeah, it almost sounds like she's choking up a little bit as she sings it. It gives me shivers every time. What a beautiful song.

While making pancakes for the wife this morning with the little guy sitting in his swing watching me, I was playing Back To Me on the iPod for the whole family to enjoy. As it turned to nap time there were definitely tears from the little guy, but I can't guarantee it was during Away. :thumb:

Just a great, great album. [sarcasm]I just hope we get an acoustic only version in 2015. [/sarcasm]

Funny, I was just arguing with somebody (Yeah... it's what I do) who was trying to convince me she's nothing but an Alanis knock-off. I've got nothing against Alanis, but aside from being from the same town, I don't think she can match up musically to Kathleen at all.

An Alanis knock-off? You need to stop arguing with people who have no clue.

The closest comparison I can draw is Lucinda Williams, with a tinge of Sarah Harmer. And if someone were to tell me Lucinda Williams is an Alanis knock-off I'd ask them when the oxygen officially stopped going to the brain and should I call a doctor.
Hey Steve, you should check out the latest issue of Harp magazine (the one with Beck on the cover). There's a great article on Kathleen, as well as some sexy photos to go along with it. You can find it at any Chapters, or just head down to Elgin Street and pick it up at Mags & Fags. Is that store still there?? I love that place. Best magazine store in Canada.

I'm sorry, I stopped reading at "sexy photos"... what? Oh, "mags and fags," yeah, my buddy Alex works there... I'll be sure to wear a trench coat and stuff it under some political stuff so nobody notices.
The new Macleans (RCMP cover) has a nice two page profile of Kathleen and her recent trip to NYC. Includes some tidbits about Letterman just lovin' her, and this great cut line: "In person she seems more sensitive than her hard-drinking, take-no-crap stage persona."

Cool. I'll have to check that out.
Update on this...I went to HMV to buy the thing, and couldn't find it; when I asked the staff person, first she tried to sell me 'Failer' (!) and then said she had recently placed a bunch of new KE discs in the 'new arrivals' section and they *couldn't possibly* have sold out so quickly. Guess what...they DID. Looks like Kathleen's got quite a little groundswell of fans behind her---more than the buyers for major chains expect, anyhow. :thumb:

Nice to hear she's selling some albums this time out. Word is she only sold about 10,000 copies of Failer in Canada, granted that was without any help whatsoever from radio. It's amazing how pathetically useless modern commercial radio has become. Back in the early 90s after Nirvana had opened the door, radio was much more adventerous about the kind of music they were airing, and a lot of great new stuff was actually getting played. My how things have changed. These days if you don't sound like Britney, Usher, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Avril, or Nickelback, then basically you have no chance at getting your stuff heard. It's disgusting.
Ummm.... this should be interesting: http://www.bravo.ca/thearts/sunday.asp
