howcome "You see, I don't know neil I don't know neil" is italicized in the album book thing Day for night? stupid question probably
To go along with my "name being tossed off" like the answer to a question he didn't ask theory...

I think maybe he just stuck that on the end impromptu, you know? A nod to the person who inspired some of it, maybe unintentional. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be an actual part of the lyrics so it's set appart by italics.
Maybe there was someone named Neil in the recording studio, looking at Gord while he sang... and Gord wasn't thrilled with this cut, and he says to Neil, "I don't know Neil, I don't know Neil"?

A buddy of mine was recording an album and a bunch of us were in studio trying to throw him off while he was recording. As he is a long time hockey player - and the song is called "Hockey Star" I called a penalty on him from the booth and signalled a misconduct with my hands on my hips. Just as he finishes the song, he says through the mic, "A misconduct, eh?" which made the final cut of the song.

I love that. Never thought of it that way, but that's a great read. Inch an Hour, contstructing, building... a myth created in a fashionable way. Although I'm one a them nuts who think Neil did actually land on the moon, I'll forget that everytime I hear the tune from now on. Smile
has he ever sung "I don't know Buzz" in concert? That'd seal it on the Neil Armstrong reference.

What was the third guys name? Does anybody know his name? Poor guy.
Michael Collins was the third astronaut. He gets forgotten cause he wasn't in the lunar module with Armstrong and Aldrin, he piloted the Apollo spacecraft, not the lunar module.

Yeah, cause there's nothing special about driving a 7-ton Roman Candle for 30,000 km's. I wonder if they stopped for lunch?

Somebody should write a song about Collins.

And while we're at it, one of my favourite Simpsons quotes:

Homer: "Who's that guy?"
Buzz: "I'm Buzz Aldrin, second man on the moon... (*uncomfortable pause*) second comes right after first."

I'd have to agree somebody should write a song about his unsung work, mayhap even link it to another err slightly more famous Michael Collins, the IRA leader who signed the first peace treaty with the Brits and got killed for his trouble.
tina Wrote:Can you tell me more about this "Springside Park"? I've never yet heard of it. Neil Young's hometown is just a bit north of Peterborough, not TO. I feel Gord is a big fan of Neil Young, but quite possibly knows him.

No no, not Toronto, not Peterborough, Neil Young is from Winnipeg.

We don't have much, don't take Neil Young away from us Smile

As the sign coming into Winnipeg clearly states:
We were born here, what's your excuse?

For Tina who asked about "Springside Park:"

Neil Young went to Pickering High School, in (you guessed it) Pickering, Ontario (just east of Toronto).... for those who are interested.

--- Class of '64, maybe?

really?
I think linking Mr. Dressup to the costume trunk is pretty tenuous. Wasn't his the Tickle Trunk, or am I thinking of someone else? Costume trunks are a dime a dozen.

It was a trunk, full of costumes.

But yeah, he and his little pal Casey did call it a "Tickle Trunk..." which just sounds a little too Jacko now that I type that...
