I just saw on CBC that Gord Downie will be a part of a telethon on the CBC next week! Sounds cool to me!

Tom Cochrane's cool but I can understand the others
Tom Cochane's certainly looking creepy nowadays. I remember back in the day ("Life Is A Highway" years, lol) what he looked like and he hadn't been around for awhile or something and I saw him on Bravo! or some other channel and I started choking on a hunk of burrito. But he does rock.... Looking at the list above, I wondered why weren't Avril's agents jumping on this opportunity but then I clicked on the link and saw her name. I wonder if she can even spell "tsunami"...
I wonder what songs Gord'll do; it doesn't say "Tragically Hip". It just says his name. What say you all? Solo songs?

Brazle, I think Gord may do a few covers like he did at the White Ribbon Concert. I doubt he'll have TCOM with him so it'll probably be him and maybe a friend and they'll each have an acoustic. I'll go out on a limb and say he may do "If I Had a Hammer" and "Into the Night". I'm not sure how many songs he'll do though, and maybe he will have TCOM.

Well, even though I'm lucky enough to get The CBC here in the U.P. of Michigan, I have to work Thursday night and do not have a VCR. So I was wondering (not requesting) if Gord's performance would be put on the tracker.

When it was first announced I was kinda puzzled as to why it would be only Gord Downie. As great as a musician that he is, GD on his own wouldn't pull 5% of the broadcast audience that The Hip would... and the guys are classy, charitable folks... I think they'll be there...
The Tragically Hip AND Rush? Damn... thats good stuff... maybe Gord can bust out the Skeleton rap from Rushs' 'Roll The Bones'... maybe Geddy Lee can sing back up on Wheat Kings, a la Kate Fenner or Sarah Harmer...

I'm sure I'm not the first one to admit this, but I really don't like Rush. They seem to be good guys and everything, and Neil Peart is a great writer/drummer (his latest book "Travelling Music" is fantastic), but I've never been a fan of their music. Geddy Lee's voice is incredibly annoying, and overall their music just rubs me the wrong way. Always has.
Agreed...most of their music is too technical for me. Too much calculation, not enough heart and soul. I mean, their fans would certainly disagree, but I think it's too abstract, from the time-signatures to the layered instrumentation. And yes, Lee's voice is a problem for me - and I like Neil Young, so let nobody say I demand technical perfection from my listening experience.

Haha! I hear ya. I'm a big fan of Tom Waits' voice, as well as Martin Tielli from the Rheostatics, so saying that Geddy's voice is annoying might seem a little strange...but hey, that's me.
