I was big into Rush when I was a teenager because the themes in their music resonated with me. I would agree that their music is too technically tight sounding; the Rush shows I have gone to most of the people around me at these shows were air drummers and guitarists. My favorite Rush album, which I still have, is Presto and this is not a fav of the hard core Rush fans because it is stripped down. But it would be interesting to hear Rush and The Hip perform on the same stage.
Maybe The Hip could finally perform Limelight that they rehearsed so many years ago...
direwolf74 Wrote:Haha! I hear ya. I'm a big fan of Tom Waits' voice, as well as Martin Tielli from the Rheostatics, so saying that Geddy's voice is annoying might seem a little strange...but hey, that's me.

Tom Waits, at his finest, doesn't so much have a "voice" as an "instrument of destruction". If a song's like a tree, he's like one of those wood chippers just ripping it to pieces. Case in point: Sixteen Shells from a Thirty-Ought-Six.

Those are meant as compliments to my favourite solo artist, by the way.

Could never quite get into Martin Tielli's voice. I like the Rheos live, but never warmed up to their recorded stuff.

Don't know what that has to do with Gord in Asia, but there ya go,

Talk about your who's who of Can-con...

WOW! A Great line up! But i assum bands will only be playing 1 or 2 songs? (thats quit the list of performers for 3 hours)
Celine Dion????? Sonofab*tch!!!! I thought we banished her to Las Vegas under agreement never to return.
I flew with Air Canada last week where I had the distinct pleasure of hearing that "You and I were meant to fly" song (don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about) at least 8 times on my 4 hour flight to Vancouver, which included the full 5 minute version complete with god awful video....try getting that sucker out of your head.
I hope Johnny gets really really drunk at that show and takes Celine Dion backstage for a private drum lesson, thus infusing her with at least a little talent...I'm sure she ain't getting much from that Geriatric Arabian prince of hers....Imagine the scandal...it might even be the elusive key to breaking into the US market!!!

Goulet!!!
We DID banish Celine to Las Vegas - and since this gig won't pay $1 million, she's not leaving her very own stage to do it. They're playing a PRE-RECORDED song, taped on her Vegas stage before a show. How lame is that? She must know she'd be slapped just for setting foot on our fair soil again!
I'm a massive Rush fan, great musicians, great guys, yadda-yadda... but I really don't like Geddy Lee's voice at all... it drives me up the wall... lyrically, Neil writes competent lyrics, but kinda too much in the fantasy land, and weird, and not Gord Downie weird... I listen for the musicianship... and everyone I know hates Rush, not everyone's cup of tea... but I still think a collaboration would be cool... I don't know, like if all the musicians came out and did one song like they did for the 9/11 benefit... probably not 'Keep On Rocking', that just wouldn't make any sense... maybe Nautical Disaster?
Hey guys, each band is playing one song. I know that for a fact. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow...!!!!!

The hip's song...TBA...wish I could tell you more...

I'm pretty pumped for the show, i'll have some stories for you hopefully!!

Take care and enjoy.

Cool... how did you get the inside scoop on this??? We need details!! Confusedhock:

Anyway, other than the obvious exceptions (i.e Celine???) it does sound like one amazing lineup. I'll be watching for sure.
Wondering what the Hip might play. An obscure ballad, something with a little heart and emotion behind it? Or a rocking power emotion song like Courage (for all the asian folks), or Nautical?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was something completely different, and if the Hip were joined, or join another band for for one of their songs, like in the past with Andrew Cash, etc.

Should be interesting, and an amazing show!!!

Way to go Canada!!!
No one has come out and said it, so for all those who dont know...this show is tonight at 7pm. just in case...

Am I the only one who would rather see Gord Downie instead of the Hip? Its just so rare to see him performing...and I've never seen any of his solo stuff live...
They were giving away tickets to the concert on the radio yesterday. Seeing as it's taking place at the CBC studios, I think it will be quite the intimate setting...

The DJ also mentioned that a number of the performers would be "live via satellite."
I think the Hip playing Nautical Disaster would be considered to obvious or maybe even to cynical, seeing as this is a benefit show for victims of a "nautical disaster". I can see Heaven is a Better Place Today, or maybe even Courage.
Im not sure wether Nautical would be appropriate or not....I think the best bet would be Are We Family for a new track, and Giftshop for an old track.
