Huh? By '91 the Hip were playing venues like the Ontario Place Forum and the Spectrum in Montreal. Those are hardly dive bars with 100 people. Anyway, weren't you FIVE YEARS OLD in 1991?
well they played the Townehouse here in 91, and it wasn't until DFN in 94 that they managed to play at the Arena. I'm guessing that it was pretty much the same thing across most of the country with the larger citites being the exception.

Yeah, who told you that? Since you were five years old in '91, you obviously heard that from someone else.
My first two Hip concerts were in '91 at the Ontario Place Forum and at UWO during frosh week. There were a few thousand people at both of those shows.

Didn't The Hip open for Page/Plant during at least part of a tour around DfN? I think a friend of mine saw them in Denver as an opener for P/P.
take a look in the setlist archive their earliest show for sudbury is 95...

I am glad everyone enjoyed the my post from Neil's book. (Took me forever to transcribe it!)
I am a huge Rush fan, saw them twice this past tour, so you can imagine my surprise when a member of my favorite band says he likes my 2nd favorite band's work.
I cannot wait to read what else he has to say about the Hip.
One thing is for sure...whether or not the Hip went on tour with Rush back in the early '90s, both bands in my opinion do things there own way. Rush has always been known to write and perform songs that they like to play. Not what the record company wants, not what the fans want but what they feel is best for the band. I think the Hip are the same, and that is very hard to find these days. Now a days, if a record company can't get your song on MTV TRL, they probably consider it a flop.
Someone mentioned they felt Rush was overrated...in my opinion a band is overrated when there is a lot of hype but no substance in the music. The hype will disappear, but its the music that keeps the band around. I think the influence that Rush, and the Hip, have had on other bands as well as the listeners is undeniable.
Looking forward to the Hip in Rochester...
FYI the guitarist from my cousin's band saw them at the Townehouse in 91, and i have no reason not to believe him, that's usually where you play in Sudbury if you're not big enough to sell out the arena.
