Your friend is in a rock band and freaked out over seeing cocaine? He would give up opening for one of the biggest bands in the land because he saw them in the back doing drugs? Yeah, that sound about right!

I'm pretty certain they all do weed and maybe they do other stuff. I'd like to think that being family men they don't, but if they do they do. I'd rather not spy on them and know every little detail of their lives. I just enjoy the music. That's it.

I've heard conflicting reports about that but now I know someone on the Hip Base who's met Gord many times and has seen track marks on his arms. However, as far as I know he's clean now except for his smoking lots and lots of as someone put it earlier 'willie nelson'

BTW, haven't you seen the Poets video? Doncha know what's in the fish tank?!

Wouldn't surprise me if the entire band did smoke it.

PS: I've never tried drugs, unless you count second hand pot smoke. However, I'm not around it unless I go to a concert in Montreal!

Ya know, all this talk about heroin and cutting cocaine. It all just sounds like second hand bullshit to me. Don't get me wrong, this is rock n' roll we're talking about here, and I'm not being naive. I'm sure the boys did some experimenting back in the day, but this band just doesn't strike me as being big cocaine/heroin users, especially now that they have households full of kids. Here's a Gord quote from way back in '95 in response to a question about Kurt Cobain's death:

"I don't think you need an anvil to fall on your head to realize what a one-way ticket heroin is."

I'm told that Gord, his wife and Rob Baker were in this upstairs room cutting coccaine. My friend didn't stick around long enough to finalize the opening arrangements.

From what I'm told.

No offense to your friend, but I don't believe that story for a second.

And opening for them in Ottawa in 03? They're was no mention of TTH playing Ottawa last year, but thats beside the point really. total fabrication  TTH doez indeed smoke THC, I'd go asfar as saying they are conossieurs of the plant :thumb: I remember reading this one article, some fella interveiwed a member of By Divine Right when they were gigging with the Hip on the Canadian Leg of the tour and he said the pot was everywhere, everyone was smoking it, but as soon as they hit the border, somebody stashed it just that quickly, and remember when they got busted that time in Saskatoon, they had it fed-ex'ed or something like that and the fedz got wind of it and busted their manager, They had something like a pound delivered to them Confusedhock: that was during the Fully Completely tour, and for that, they skipped over Saskatchewan on the DFN tour Cry But luckily I won a trip to Calgary to see them :jump but thats another story  I'll see if I can dig that write-up on that By divine right thing, I still got that mag somewhere.....
I agree about that they prawly checked out some pretty wild drugz but now adayz I think its just the occasional hoot to calm the nervez and get to a place of relaxation, just to tune into writing, many many musicianz use it for those purposez,,,,,,

Were you high when you posted this topic here?
In the Heksenketal video, if you pay close attention to one of the scenes on the bus when Gord Sinclair is sitting at the table playing cards, you can see him breaking up some bud at the table. He is holding up his cards with one hand trying to hide it, but you can still see him doing it.

Also, I know a few people in Moncton that used to be friends with some of the band members in Eric's Trip. The story has it that when they toured with the Hip on ARA 97 (I think), the Hip gave every band on the tour a big complimentary jar full of bud to enjoy. I don't know how much truth their is to that, but it doesn't seem too far fetched.
If the hip did a few lines here and there that really wouldn't surprise me. You can do it occasionally without it ruining your life. I kindof thought Gord may have had a few for his I&I last year, just based on his actions.
Heroin though..track marks...I doubt that.

Yeah, no offence, I'm not even gunna go there with this comment...but it's unfounded. Dope is one thing, but cocaine is quite the other. Try about 15 years ago...but all these guys have kids and love their families. They've come a long way in smartening up...

Am I the only one who finds these sorts of threads (i.e. where the band's personal lives are discussed) kind of objectionable?

IMHO, this sort of thread borders on crossing the line, especially when we're throwing around potentially slanderous comments like the "track marks" and "Gord cutting cocaine" with his wife and Rob in a hotel room last year...

People, they're in a rock and roll band; of course they've been exposed to "stuff" that comes with that life...whether or not they choose/chose to partake is really none of our business...

Just one opinion...

Amen...let's let the thread die in peace...
Yeah me either...That's so stupid.

I don't see how that could be 'slanderous'. It's a fact of life, really. It's not like the Hip are the first band to be influenced by drugs. It's not a crime to talk about it..
Talking about it is one thing, but making accusations/assumptions based on "friend of a friend"-type accounts (99.9% of which are usually pure fiction) is entirely different...

These type of threads always seem to attract the "You'll never guess what my buddy saw Gordie doing in an alley..." stories...

I just think it drags the quality of the board down a peg, that's all...

Marijuana, yes. That's not far fetched in the least. And acutally I heard the same story about the jar of weed from the sister of the bass player in Van Allen Belt. But all these stories about cocaine and heroin?? I doubt it.

OH fuck, I can't say a goddamned thing in here without causing a goddamned controversey and someone who gave me information can't even back me up. Well ya know what, fuck it. I'm outa here.
