In terms of releasing material from the vault, one question is what would constitute a seemly delay, honouring the passing of Gord, versus unseemly scrambling to capitalize on this last peak period of interest in the band.
Sure, I'd rush out to buy a "Rare and Unreleased" compilation right now. But if I'm in the band, it is probably MUCH too soon to want to sift through all that material - the wound of Gord's demise still being too fresh. (The same might be true - perhaps even more so - of a "tribute concert" in which the boys play backing band to a series of lead singers).
Wait too long and you pass your obvious commercial window. I doubt this is a massive consideration for the band, but it might matter quite a bit if you're the record company. And this could be relevant in terms of how generous the package is.
So, the timing is an interesting variable. Just saying.

I do think they’re going to need time here. The wound is very fresh.
We know there’s plenty of unreleased songs from decades back in some cases.
I just wonder if they worked on any new Hip songs in 2016 or 2017. That’s the bigger question to me.

There's also the MMP "companion album" that Robby talked about a little while ago. Also, during Gord's interview with Mansbridge near the end of 2016, he mentioned that he had been working with the guys on new music, along with his solo projects. I'm very curious to know how far along they were with that stuff. Was this material just rough sketches and demos? Or were they close to completion? I suppose we'll find out eventually.

I think in the interview where he first mentioned the double album of unreleased stuff that they had about an EP worth of stuff post MMP. Who knows what state it's in or whether it will ever see the light of day but if Gord's parts are good enough, it would be great to hear this stuff and bookend their catalogue with EP's.

I too share some of the dislike noted above in regards to "cover/tribute" bands, but at the same time there are a few exceptions to the rule.
There are a couple phenomenal Pink Floyd cover bands bands out there, Eclipse, Comfortably Numb, Aussie Floyd, they are pretty impressive to see.
Musical Box puts on an incredible Peter Gabriel era Genesis show.
Any of the "Classic Album's Live" I have seen have also been stellar.
Yes, there are a lot of garbage tributes out there that are almost more of a "caricature act" than a tribute, butt here are a few good ones out there as well.
Bumping this thread: So the Choir! Choir! Choir! Event just took place with a couple of the band members.
How did everyone feel about that? Would you want the entire band to tour like this Nationwide?
Another thing I read today is that Amy Winehouse is touring in Hologram form! How would we like to see Gord in Hologram on stage again?

- Ticket prices could be much more reasonable for shows like this, ranging from $25 for upper deck to $70 for floor.
- A “Burning Church Choir” Inspired Tour Poster would be fitting and epic for this tour.
- Of course this would need to only be considered once the band felt “ready” and in the right mind frame, for such a venture.
- Any other ideas? Or opinions?

I couldn't make it through 2 minutes of that video. Rob & Johnny were charitable to get up there. I doubt they'll do that again.
This was just way too much cheese to enjoy. I'm glad Rob and Johnny stuck around and were good sports, but part of me thinks they were probably backstage for the first little bit wondering what they had gotten themselves into and thinking of bailing.

I’m sure the only reason they did that was to promote UP.
im not sure the right way to do it. some definite heavy thought should go into it. it needs to be done right and that is not a fast decision to make
they should sit back and wait until the time is right and perhaps the wound is too fresh right now...for me it is

I find it fascinating that Gord was begging the other band members to keep The Tragically Hip going with a different singer. I am, for obvious reasons, glad they didn't give in to his demands - but a very small part of me wonders how these songs might sound with, say, Sarah Harmer on lead vocals (it'd 100% have to be a female singer, I think).
