"An American Prayer" by The Doors is the first album I thought of when reading this. It's an interesting listen but is non-essential, even for Doors fans. The thing about the Hip and Gord is that he was not lost suddenly like Morrison (or Lennon, in the case of your Beatles example). My hope is that he and the band had the opportunity to have a conversation about potential future projects and what to do with vocal outtakes (and demos, poetry readings, B-sides, etc) such that any future releases will reflect Gord's wishes. I can't imagine they didn't have this conversation, but who knows?
Personally, if the project has artistic merit and has Gord's blessing, I'm all for it. If it becomes a matter of pillaging and plundering archival material simply for commercial purposes, I'm opposed.

As above, I have an almost violent reaction against cover bands (not a band playing a cover, but a band that dresses like and mimics someone else). No desire to see it, can't comprehend why obviously talented musicians would want to do it. I refuse to believe people when they tell me any of these other imitators are "good" or "I never saw the Hip, but I saw 'insert pun on song name' and they were great"...apologies to anyone on this board who is in one of these bands....I just get no joy seeing a chubby bald guy in a silver suit sing Hip songs.

You're preaching to the choir here on hipbase.
But some of the congregation only attends mass on holidays, not to mention the droves of recent converts eager to proclaiming their faith. They seem quite thirsty to hear the new testament sung by the priests fronting these cover bands*
There was a day when people would tell us the hip sucked, or asked why we still went to their shows. Now some of these same people want to talk to us about them. Blasphemers!

The ONLY thing I want to see going forward are releases of material from the vaults, whether live or studio. The Tragically Hip "bootleg series."
I do not want
-grotesque working-ups of old demos with Gord, like The Beatles did with moldy Lennon tapes (easily the worst thing ever perpetrated by that great band).
-some national sing-a-long where the audience sings Gord's part - no offence, but that sounds like an extended exercise in egregious sentimentality to me
-"tributes" where people other than Gord front the band
-any other form of sad, sentimental trading on the legacy of the Tragically Hip.
In other words: it's over. The Hip WERE a quintet featuring Gord Downie and he is absolutely irreplaceable. The band stands for LIVING art, at least to me, not backwards-looking nostalgia experiences.
This does not mean no "new" music from the Hip, because the vaults contain 30 years of stuff. It just means accepting that the Hip no longer exist as a working entity providing live experiences or original music made after Gord's death.
Anybody else see Tower of Song: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen last night on CBC? Absolutely amazing.
I could get behind a similar celebration for The Hip.

I haven't seen it, but the quintessential would have to be the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. That was just one amazing show of appreciation and gratitude, honoring one of the best front men of a band ever.
Gord deserves a similar show for certain.

Totally agree with this idea. As I mentioned in my previous post, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this is already in the planning stages.
That Leonard Cohen tribute last night was fantastic.
Bit late on this one, but I would rather light myself (and my money) on fire than go to a show with a few thousand people (if that) singing off key while the band stands awkwardly on stage playing.
The Freddie Mercury tribute concert set the bar as high as possible to give the ultimate nod to a beloved front man. A part of me says there's a bit of a possibility but not much... IF it did come about, I wouldn't limit the performers to only Canadian artists. I know that sounds crazy but the band and Gord was beloved by musician's all over. I could see Eddie Vedder singing a Hip tune or two. How about Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil.....etc.
I would be on board for something like this. However, I'm betting the remaining band-members would not. I believe they fully appreciate the brotherhood that was an integral part of the Hip's makeup and success and even a good intended tribute show wouldn't be something the guys would do.
Just my opinion but I could almost guarantee there's already plans for the following though:
1) A full length "Anthology" type of a mini series or feature film that would tell the Hip's story, start to finish. LTR was wonderful but like a few people said in this thread, I want to remember Gord in all his "ranting" glory...in his 100% healthy heyday. People who either don't know the band or don't know them well need to see that side of the GD and the band. What the guy (and the band) gave us in 2016 will never be forgotten. However, the 30 year version of Gord should be out there for people to celebrate not just the last tour.... I truly believe when the band members are ready, a project like this should happen.
2) The ultimate box set (or double album) of rarities (ie PJ's Lost Dogs). There's absolutely no reason to not do this....other than if it was Gord Downie's wish to have those songs/recordings never see the light of day. Just my opinion (as with many others in this forum) that there's lots of wonderful material that was left off albums for whatever reason.....I hope the band see it fit to give it all a release.
3) A limited box set of Live Vault recordings: Package it and price it however the band wants... WE WANT this and will pay for it. I'd say represent each tour with an concert recorded. Even if some of the early recordings are rough.... bring it on! It's not for radio, it's for us fans...
4) For the late bloomers (who discovered or re-discovered the Hip in 2016)....and people around the world who discovered the Hip recently because of what took place, a new "greatest hits" album should happen. I say this only from a band/management standpoint. Yer Favourites only goes through 2004. There's many more Hip singles that deserve to be on a double album greatest hits package. Maybe not necessarily our faves but songs like Coffee Girl, In View, At Transformation, In A World Possessed....etc should be in a package with ABAC and NOIS...

I'd be down with a tribute show - and I'd be down with it starting with a sing-a-long (to, say, Bobcaygeon). But nothing beyond that. And not unless it raises hundreds of thousands for cancer.

Similar to PJ20, I'm sure there's enough archival footage around to put together a great documentary of TTH; even some Davis Manning footage on YouTube so you could get everything.

Rob has mentioned a couple of times they have a double album of unreleased stuff; hoping that this is on the horizon.

I would like if they sat down, argued about which show they have on tape that they think was the best version of themselves at that time and released this as a box set of a live snapshot of the band on each album tour.

Maybe a Yer Favourites disc 3 - WC -> MMP?
Some other things I'd like to see:
1) Some RSD releases; something easy to start like No Threat/New Maybe and then look at 45's (re)releases of the singles; maybe two or three albums a year until you get through everything
2) National Celebration on 4LP; since it was mastered by Ludwig, this should be a no brainer
3) The Vault; since they have a tonne of stuff on tape, start rolling it out. Host it on their website, charge a nominal fee for mp3 ($5) and a bit more ($10) for flac.
4) If they have or can get the rights, would love to have a remastered physical version of Misty Moon show
