Easily the best thing he's done in years. This guy can be so wildly inconsistent from album to album, but he really knocked it out of the park with this one. I can't stop listening to it.



Also, my vote for single of the year goes to the first track on the record, "Gimme Something Good". His brilliant performance on Letterman a couple of weeks ago sealed the deal. It's so damn good, Letterman asks him to play it twice:

Anybody hear the new Sloan album yet, 'Commonwealth'? Its piqued my interest, but I can't seem to find it in a record store, and the vinyl isn't on Amazon or their website.
Talk about a limited pressing...

Probably going to check them out on Nov 28th when they come through Ottawa. Maybe they'll have some vinyls on sale there...

I loved their last album 'The Double Cross', and 'Between The Bridges' is one of my favourite records of all time.

I wouldn't say I disliked it, but just that it didn't grab me the way others did. But some great songs on it for sure!

If I had to select my favourite Petty album, I would probably have to go with Southern Accents. The title song alone makes it worthy of being my favourite, but then you add in Rebels, Don't Come Around Here No More, and Best of Everything (most underrated Petty song ever), it makes it a real treasure of an album.

I am a huge Ryan Adams fan, pumped to see him at Massey Hall in Nov, but I don't think Gimmie makes my top 3 from this album.

This album is in heavy rotation lately, probably spun it three times this week. Each album member wrote one side, I would rank the sides Jay > Chris > Andrew > Patrick.

Andrew's side (a 17m long song called "Forty Eight Portraits") has really grown on me.
