A grungy, bluesy, swampy, greasy, old-school rock album of the highest caliber. I'm on my 3rd listen through and I can easily say that this record stands up as one of the best efforts of Petty's career. Mike Campbell is a beast on this album!

Sounds like he's done what many of us on this forum wish the Hip would do with a new album ... back to the roots.

Very cool album. A natural progression from Michigan Left with extremely catchy melodies and big sing-a-long choruses all over the place. The whole record has a bit of an 80s pop-rock vibe, and a couple of songs borrow directly from Born in the USA-era Springsteen with their piano and synth lines. "Come to Light" has been stuck in my head for days. What a great song.

Best album I've listened to in a long time. Can't wait to see him at Fenway.

DFA 1979-The Physical World has been melting my face since it was released......so good!

It blows me away how a band thats first album came out in 1976 releases one in 2014 that just may be my favourite release by them (Well, either this or "You're Gonna Get It")

Glad to read these reviews. I am a huge Petty fan, but kinda lost interest after "Into The Great Wide Open", which to me was the last real solid album they came out with. After that came attempts such as "Shes The One" and "Wildflower", which just didn't grab me at all and my interest waned.

Its going to be hard to beat "Damn The Torpedoes" and "Hard Promises", but going to run out and pick this up today now!
