So you heard the singles, those tunes from the radio and decided to check the band out a little more...

I'm guessing everyone has that moment with a favourite band where they start to dig a little deeper, get past the radio-friendly tunes and into the album cuts and then it hits them... this band is for me

i'll kick it off with perhaps what might go down as a unique choice but it's the song that forever has me in debt. You might laugh but it's true...

Apartment Song

Crazy, I know.. I don't rank it among their best but when I heard it late that night, in that perfect mood, it clicked and thus began an incredible journey of discovery... so what was it for you?
Cordelia.

I was already a huge Hip fan, having become obsessed with Up to Here and their "Live at the Misty Moon" concert on Muchmusic back in 1990. Little Bones had already hit radio and my anticipation for their soon to be released 2nd full-length album was extremely high. The day it came out, I grabbed my walkman, took the bus to Chinook Mall, and bought the cassette at Sam the Record Man. I immediately put it in my walkman and listened to the album on the way home at full volume, reading along with the lyrics as the tape played. That moment at the beginning of Cordelia, after Robby's quiet, ringing guitar riff opens the song and then the full band comes in after the first verse: "I'm not Cordelia, I will not be there..."

That was it for me. The Hip had officially become the greatest f'n rock band in the world. Not that I needed more convincing by that point. But that was the song that pretty much sealed it as far as them becoming my all-time favorite band, essentially replacing U2 at the top of my list.
