Are you trying to wake the forum up??? Confusedhock:
ewallman Wrote:A Local DJ (Winnipeg), who is respected, was spouting today that he has sources in Kingston saying that the Hip are done, as in breaking up.

Don't shoot the messenger, just passing along what was said on the radio!!!!

Somehow I doubt that, since they've been working on a new album for the last few months. However, R.E.M. recently put out a brand new album and then called it quits immediately after. So you never know. I'd be absolutely devastated if that was true though.
Confusedhock:
I haven't heard that rumour....but, I do think the end is near. Hope a new album proves me completely wrong.
I would hope they would give us fair warning say with an announcement last album tour and good night... Cry
It wouldn't surprise me if they are done in the form we've come to know and love. New album every couple of years, regular touring, etc.

I think life outside The Hip holds more interest for the guys now, and as a result things have to change.
Yeah they have kids and other family interests, not to mention other musical interests. I suppose they could always post an update on their website to keep people in the loop. I'm sure if someone contacted K-Rock or 96.3 (Classic Hits) in Kingston and just asked if anyone has heard of these rumours maybe it could put it to rest. Something tells me the rumour would be on the streets of Kingston long before it made its way to a Winnipeg radio station. The end is near, but, I think they would give their fans a heads up.
spottrax Wrote:Someone needs to wake this forum up! What is up with the HIP?? I know they're getting older and all but this is as quiet as I ever remember it. It is obvious that there is still a large audience out there who will pay top dollar to see them in a greatest hits/festival setting all summer. Are the fires of creativity still burning within the band? Mav where ya at? Any insight?

Some very random thoughts:

Didn't they record/video all of the WATS shows? What tremendous performances that tour. Great rarities and visuals all tour! Seems to me like the perfect box set of live stuff.....or at the very least, a few Live From the Vault's.

Also, what is the word with the Bob C documentary?

And finally, is there really a new album in the works?

I'm ready to buy myself a nice Christmas present (HIP related) but I might just have to settle for buying my nephew the lulliby cd...

MAV??? Buehler?? Anyone? :thumb:

Just sent an email off to the director of the documentary, I'll let everybody know if I hear anything.
Here's the reply I got

"Hey Matt,

funny timing - credits on the film were being done yesterday when I
saw your name in lights.
No date on release, but I'll keep you in the loop.

You guys are great in the film - thanks for checking in.

Andy"

So sounds like they're wrapping up post-production on it (my terminology could be way off), but aren't sure on release date yet. If anyone's in the industry feel free to correct me, but I'm guessing it's unlikely we'll be getting a pre-christmas release.
I, too, have had the sense for a while that The Hip are coming toward the end of their time together.

I don't think they're breaking up now. Perhaps this next album will be their last. Who knows? I don't have any inside news, just my own hunches as a long-time fan. I'm glad I got to see them in Edmonton this past summer. I'll fork out money to see them on their next tour, too. I'm excited for the new album (especially after hearing Drip Drip Drip).

Then again, maybe they'll give it another ten years. Who knows?
There to young to retire U2 is still going...they can just wait longer in between albums...everyone okay with that :music
Nope.

They can't split up.  Why? So they can work the farm, ride dogs or some other horse shit?  The haters can go blow it out their ass.  The Hip still pack shows and produce new and exciting material.  I think that if the boys need anything they need to remember who they are.  They should head down to New Orleans, rent a shack on a swamp, drink rot gut whisky, smoke some dirty brown weed and get back them white boy blues.  Now is not the time to quit.

Their best days are still ahead.

Viva la Hip!!!

P.s.

They should dump Jim on keys. He is too nice. They need some strung out a-hole with fire in his belly. Muddy things up a bit.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Personally I think these guys still have a lot more in them, and I'm hoping this awful rumor is just that.

I wrote out a few paragraphs on the topic, which my work computer promptly deleted. Maybe it's a sign, get back to work. So anyways, when thinking about this, I can't help but be reminded of the final scene of the Sopranos.

"Try and remember the times that were good."

This band may be really slowing down, but they've given us no shortage of memories.
