The PJ20 3 disc bluray is pretty awesome...was PJ20 all I'd hoped for? Nope, as it failed to delve into a number of things I'd hoped for, but I still enjoy it for what it is. As for bobcaygeon, it's pretty much what I expected it to be...some good bits, some less than good bits, and less than a complete story, though that was no surprise.
Postman just delivered it to my door. Don't have great memories of this show, between an untimely gout attack and the VIP fiasco I left the cow pasture before the show ended. First time I've ever done that in 150+ Hip shows. Will give it a spin tonight.

I'd love to see something done in the style of recent rock docs like Pearl Jam Twenty or Foo Fighters Back & Forth. I recently watched the Mark Sandman/Morphine documentary "Cure for Pain", and it was hands down one of the best films I've seen all year, period. It would be wonderful to see the Hip get the same kind of treatment in the near future.
Also, will someone please write a freakin' book about these guys already? It's long overdue.
I had high expectations for PJ20 but was pretty disappointed. I found it rather dull and uninspired.
I agree, THAT movie was PROMOTED as being great and one of the best, I felt that it fell way short of what we were told it was to be.
I thought PJ20 was well done for the most part. My only complaint was that Cameron Crowe spent too much time focusing on their early days and not enough on their career post-2000, which in my opinion is the more interesting part of their story. They spent some time on the Roskilde incident and then it just seemed to skip ahead to 2011. But other than that I thoroughly enjoyed it.
After seeing this twice, once sober and once not so much, I'm a little surprised at the criticism. I thought the producer's goal was neither to do a fan nor live concert focused piece, but rather a journal or collage of feelings, facts, process and insight of what a Hip show if this magnitude is all about. I went into it with low expectations based on the reviews and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Really enjoyed the fan interviews and the HD live footage was firkin amazeballs.
Gord told the producer, "Let's make an un-doc. Focus on the fans."
Mr. Keen completed the fan interviews over a short six-week period. I think he did an awesome job.
The cluster of events - long beer lines, VIP section view blocked by a scenic row of orange shitters, and then "bus-gate" - were the fault of the concert promoter, not the producer of the film.
As another user posted, the sound was way off when the Hip took the stage. Retouching the sound during film editing is extremely difficult, if not impossible,
If you were there, you have to give props to the Sam Roberts Band. Those guys played a phenomenal set and sounded incredible. Unfortunately, I had to see it through chain-linked fenced cattle pen (aka VIP section). I was thankful for the video so I could see what the hell I missed, even though I was there.
watched this last night, I agree with what others said...I would like to have seen extras, the morning after/aftermath, and songs. However, I loved some of the fan stories and cracked up at Tragically Chip lady & the poor bride walking down the aisle to "HIP HIP HIP HIP HIP HIP HIP HIP HIP!" (I know of someone who had their wedding ruined because of U2 in Moncton)
Thought Gord sounded off....was it just the state Iwatched it in on Saturdaynignt but, I don't recall Gord wearing in ear monitors at this show....have to check when I get home, likely after Vegas.
Received this for christmas, looking forward to giving it a listen today
Santa hooked me up! Got the blueray and watched the entire thing last night. As a fan, I was completely satisfied with the movie. My son who is 22 even got interested and watched the majority of it. The visuals are wonderful and all the band footage is really cool. Certainly has a "fly on the wall" feel to it. Other people have covered most everything I feel about the movie in other posts so I won't rattle on but I will say this: First and foremost, hats off to Andy and the others for the passion and the resorces to make an interesting movie about an event that revolved around our beloved Tragically Hip. Secondly, I surely wish the blueray would've contained some Special Features (ie more footage, more live songs, more of SRB, Twews and Miss Emily, more fan interviews etc) but becareful what you wish for, the dvd release might've not come until later into 2013 if we had that incuded...So, I am very happy and satisified.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
top moments:
the entire version of 50 MC to end the movie with
the scenes leading up the band leaving the trailer to head to the stage
the beauty of the landscapes and the people from that area
I also really like the odd selection of songs scattered throughout the movie (Exact Feeling, Gems, Struggle etc) very nice!
From a fans perspective the movie was an A-
Can't wait to watch it again...

I laughed when Robbie says, " nice shirt" to which Paul replies "thanks" then Robbie says " got a few stains on it." hahahhah I thought that showed a brother like bond between them.

It is facinating to watch the tour bus stuff. I think no matter how succesful the band, guys still get a bit jittery in anticipation for a show....then the calm-down afterwards
"Bobcaygeon" will be played at a film festival in Whitehorse on February 7th at 8:30pm: http://yukonfilmsociety.com/alff/alff/program
There will be a Q & A with the director at the end of the viewing. Seems like a pretty sweet way to see the film!
