I'm in.
Question about the scoring system - a point for a SOG? A SOG is worth the same as a goal or assist? Seriously?

Also, based on the current scoring system, decent goalies will get twice the number of points that superstar forwards get.

I'm not complaining - just want to make sure the scoring system doesn't change after I do my pre-rank.
Just joined the bobcaygeon league with Performance God and the Boyz... when do I get to pick cheerleaders?
Guys

Still 6 spots left!!!

I just realized that now...I lessened the SOG value to 0.5. I think that this should merit something and gives all players a chance to get some fantasy points.

I also edited goalie points to make it more consistent. A win will be worth 3 rather than 5 and a shutout will be worth 7 rather than 10.

DRAFT TONIGHT AT 9:30 PM E.T.!
I hope this doesn't screw up pre-rankings too much. I thought about the best possible scoring system and this one still might have a few flaws.

I wish yahoo would have a default as they do for football.

I realized PIM's shouldn't be worth 0.5 because a 2 min penalty would count as much as a goal. So I made PIM's count in a negative way, -0.25. This way a 2 minute penalty would cause a player to lose a point.

With this, I increased the value of a goal and assist to 2 points.

As for the rest of it all...not too many changes, here it is:

G (2), A (2), +/- (1), PIM (-0.25), PPG (2), PPA (2), SHG (3), SHA (3), GWG (5), GTG (3), SOG (0.5), W (3), GA (-0.5), SV (0.5), SHO (7)

So...

A goal is 2, a PP goal 4, and a SH goal 5. I am assuming the values get added together. 2 for the regular goal and additional points for special teams.

So a PP, GW goal should be worth 9.5 points (2 for the G, 2 for the PPG, 5 for the GWG, 0.5 for the SOG) for a total of 9.5 points.

I am assuming this is how it has to work. So, players should be just as valuable as goalies.

A goalie who posts a 24 save shutout win would get 7+12+3 for 22 points. In some situations, goalies could prove more valuable but I believe this system should prove to be fair.

I hope I didn't screw up any pre-draft rankings for anybody. I am very sorry if I did and I hope it turns out to be a competetive league for all!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS SEASON!
I don't think it works that way (with goals). A PPG is considered a PPG and not a G. Under your scenario you wouldn't get the extra two for the goal. But GWG and GTG would be "bonus points" so they would be added on.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to "dumb it down". G (1) A (1) W (2) SHO (1).

Or, if you do want all of that extra stuff:

G (1)
A (1)
+/- (1)
PIM (0) - (I mean who cares about PIMs?!?!?)
PPG (2)
PPA (2)
SHG (2)
SHA (2)
GWG (2)
GTG (1)
SOG (.25) - if that - I'd eliminate it altogether
W (2)
SV (.1)
SHO (2)

Anyway, ultimately what you decide is fine. Just my two cents.

Now I gotta fix my pre-ranks!
Hey Drez, for what it's worth, your point system will be fine, I'm sure. I might have set the assist points to 1.5, but that's just being picky. Anyway, looking forward to the draft... see y'all there in 1 hr 20 min or so!

*EDIT* I just realized something. With .5 points for a save, goalies are going to be scoring a LOT more points than other players.

For example, take the #1 skater from the last season per the rankings, Martin St. Louis. His points that year under this system would be worth 445 points. Meanwhile, the #1 goalie, Martin Brodeur, would be worth 959.5 points. Heck, even the 23rd ranked goalie, Martin Biron, would be worth 548 points in this system. Does this make sense?

I think the problem is in awarding 0.5 point for a save... it's too high. If you changed it to 0.25 points for a save, it would make it more equal (for example, Brodeur's points would be 536.75... still higher than St. Louis, but not outrageously high).

It shouldn't affect our draft, I don't think, but some tweaking to the system should be done before the season starts. Heck there's still more than a month to go before it starts, so I think we can come to a solution that works for everyone!
Thanks for the suggestions....

This is what we have for now:

Stat Modifiers: G (2), A (1), +/- (0.5), PPG (3), PPA (2), SHG (4), SHA (3), GWG (5), GTG (4), SOG (0.25), W (3), GA (-0.5), SV (0.25), SHO (7)

They can be changed at any time but I would like to have it set prior to the start of the season and stick with it throughout.

Post any suggestions here and I will be glad to make changes!

That's the key...I am willing to make any changes necessary. I made some now but I am finding it hard to come up with the "perfect" solution!

It would be nice if Yahoo had a default!!

As a young boy growing up in Poland, Penalties In Minutes was among the few things that gave me hope. Indeed, it is written that PIM's help undo the destructive dirge of Communism. But do away with them if you must... but one day, the world will see, penalties... measured in minutes, altered the course of history as we know it.
