Alright so when I go in April 7th I was plannin on buying a Downie solo album Ive never heard either one before. Which one do you guys prefer? Does Coke Machine Glow come with his poetry or whatever?
Oh and do the Hip only have one live album available through record stores?

The Hip only have one live album available through stores.
Downie has two solo albums: Coke Machine Glow and Battle Of The Nudes.
I think the general consensus is that Coke Machine Glow is better, but I prefer Battle Of The Nudes...
I guess it depend on who you talk to. The poetry book for Coke Machine Glow does not come with the album.
Battle of the Nudes is way better in my opinion

The poetry book for Coke Machine Glow DOES come with the CD if you were going to buy my copy. I still have not opened it and they are both still shrink wrapped together with the promo stickers attatched. Needless to say I have no clue what the CD actaully sounds like even though ive had it for about 8 years Id guess.

They definetly are not Tragically Hip albums.
They definetly kick ass though.
Yea right. hehehe, actaully I got it and put it on a shelf with every intention of opening it and playing it and reading the book, but one thing led to another and I forgot it was on that shelf and found it about a year later then put it on a different shelf out of reach of the kids and forgot where I put it and thought id thrown it out, then a couple years later found it again, by this time, I figured its a collectors item now , what with not being opened and all origional promo stickers still on it, so I figured I might as well just put it away and wonder what it sounded like.
So like the guy who started this thread asks, so do i.

I like the second one better (to the point where I refuse to listen to it before the sun sets) but both are amazing. The book is really good too. Listen to both, man!

I really like a few select tracks on Coke Machine, but overall, I could listen to Battle of the Nudes from song first to song last. Love that album :thumb:

Totally agree. I don't like every song on Coke Machine Glow, but there are a couple of excellent songs on it. Battle of the Nudes however, is great from start to finish.
I get a real cottagey, up north feel from Coke Machine Glow. I can't describe it, but to me it would be the perfect album to listen to while sitting on a patio at night in front of a lake while drinking some beers.
I wouldn't say one album is better than the other. They're two completely different albums. For me, it depends on what kinda mood I'm in.

Yeah, mood has a lot to do with it for me, too. I really enjoy both albums. I find that BOTN is too short for my liking, but it still rocks. I would say that neither album has great songs from start to finish. There are a couple of duds on CMG (the Atom Egoyan one sticks out as being particularly brutal) and there are a few songs on BOTN that aren't very good. I really love that both records are different from the work of The Hip. This isn't like listening to Moist and then listening to David Usher, which is basically just Moist-lite. Gord's two albums are very eclectic and pretty unique, and it's clear that Gord isn't afraid to put himself out there and take risks. I'm sure a lot of Hip fans hate CMG but I think it's a pretty beautiful album.
