God, I hate tribute bands.
Don't hold back, tell him how you really feel.

there I fixed the link so people could click on it (but I highly recommend you dont)
DANG IT! I wish you would have more highly recommended I don't.
Oh man...the lead singer he tries to dress like Gord! It's just not good.
If you can play music, man try to create your own, don't copy someone else and try to be like them.
Just seems to me like a couple of blokes trying to have a good time and play some Hip. I don't see anything wrong with that. I always find it cool when I'm at a bar with a live band, and they strike up some Hip.
Every tribute band I see for the Hip I view as a huge compliment to band. They obviously love the Hip and their music. I'll take a cover band any day when the genuine article isn't available.
I've gotta defend these guys...they are also known as the Jeremy Hoyle Band.

Actually, they have created their own music...he's opened up for Ron Hawkins and I know has chatted with Gord on a few occasions, who himself was very open to the idea of another group playing their music.

Hoyle has made music his career, not just a side show. Here are a few things...I know most won't care, but what the hell...

They even played the national anthems at a Buffalo Sabres game in front of 18,000 + on a couple occasions.

They even have Sabres players join them on stage from time to time to chip in on vocals and/or guitar. Pretty neat if you ask me.

You can see from their MySpace page that they have made it outside of Buffalo because of their talent, not just their ability to play Hip songs. They play Columbus, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee,

The Hip are just so popular in the WNY area that the Strictly Hip play the night scene to lend to a great night of music, beers, and friends. He may sport the Gord hat, but I don't see him trying to imitate Gord's stage presence. For them, it seems as they just are die hard Hip fans like all of us and really enjoy playing their songs.

They probably play one set of Hip, and the rest is Lowest of the Low, Pearl Jam, Weezer, Radiohead, Johnny Cash, etc.

The video may lend itself to criticism because tribute bands are "uncool" but see them in person and you may change your view...every time I have ever gone, it has been a blast.

If you ever make it out in Buffalo, check them out and I do not believe you will be disappointed.

Sorry for the long post but after seeing these guys many times, and knowing how much they put into music OTHER than the Hip, I had to come to their defense.

Here are some of their other clips of original music...

Man, I now remember why I left message boards like this and alt.tragicallyhip and thihip.org back in the day............there is an immense amount of hate on here! Instead of being down with a band that spreads the Hip's music, you hate on this band because you obviously don't have the talent or moxy to do what they do. "Oh my god, the singer dresses like gord?" Are you kidding me, Castro hats have been around, since well........Castro. I dont think Gord coined that look. Oh maybe you meant, the button down shirt? Yea, Gord definately trademarked that.

Dont forget the Hip were originally playing plenty of covers, including the Doors. This band does both and given the hellacious appetite for Hip tunes in Buffalo and the fact that they are here but once every one or two years, I see nothing wrong with a saturday night at a pub with some live Hip tunes.

Yeah, I'll profess my bias' cuz Im from Southern ONtario and have seen thise guys rock out clubs all over Ft. Erie, St. Cats, the Falls, Buffalo and more and have never had a bad time. The lead singer is a huge hip fan isn't trying to come across as a clown rip off clone band. This band honors the Hip as well as a ton of other Canadian music (LOTL, Headstones, Forgotten Rebels) and I think they deserve some props for continuing to play the Hip when radio stations wont even touch them these days(at least in Buffalo). They do more to promote the Hip than anyone else and the last post nailed it exactly..............Live and Let Live!
Agreed. They are great guys, especially Jer. And truthfully, they haven't been "Stirctly" Hip for years. They are basically just an awesome bar band that has gone by that name for almost ten years. They play a wide variety of stuff at most shows.

k, I maintain that the singer got his dress style inspired by Gord. Is that better?

sorry man.. you caught a couple of guys on here on their period this week
This guy is in a cover band and I don't have any respect for him because of this. I don't care if he's an "accomplished musician" and I don't care if most bands of past decades started as cover bands because I doubt these guys are anywhere near as talented as the Beatles or the Doors or the Hip. To quote Vulgaires Machins on this one...

"Insultez mon intelligence
Cultivez mon indiffrence
Conservez nos esprit immenses
Dans la betise et lignorance
On sert l'art comme de la viande
L'amour qu'on m'livre est un non-sens
Culture de junkie
Ya juste une aiguille sur la bande"
