Just bought myself Guitar Hero 3 for my ps2. what an awesome and addicting game!!
I had never played it before but was intrigued in the store one day, all my friends thought i was stupid and said how dumb the game was, but once they played they are now as addicted as i am!!
Anyone else try Guitar Hero 3? how does it compare to the other versions?

Not at all.
It's too painfull to think about, because it'll never happen. Not until possibly GHVII when we'll be able to do customizable songs w/o chipping our consoles.
It's torture playing "Ballroom Blitz" and "Madhouse" wishing it could be a kickass Hip song. Then they pick an amazing band, like Pearl Jam, and use "Even Flow". Mike's skills have exploded since then and there's 30 better songs to represent his sick skills. Just listen to how he jams on "EF" now for proof!
That being said, while it's not my favorite Hip song, but "Lonely End" would be an amazing GH tune.
Vaccination Scar Lonely End of The Rink would be excellent for this.
i would hate it if The Hip put any songs on GH, you'd get so sick of the song just like every other song GH has ruined...good game though

If GH had a wider selection... you wouldn't get sick of the songs, IMO.

I realize that Guitar Hero is a game, and the "competitive" aspect is what makes the thing so popular, but.......
It amazes me that so many people -- young and old --invest soooo many hours playing this thing when you can go down to the pawn shop and buy an actual guitar (cheap and secondhand as it may be) for about as much as you'd pay for the game itself. In the amount of time so many apparently spend playing that game, it's almost guaranteed that most anyone can learn the basics of REAL guitar playing well enough to strum out Wheat Kings or Get Back Again or hundreds of other simple but good songs.
Not only would that make you a more cultured individual, but the sense of fulfillment and accomplishment ought to far outweigh that of achieving "superstar" status on a video game.
And if Guitar Hero "superstar" status is more gratifying to most than learning to play a real musical instrument, then I guess that speaks volumes on the state of western civilization.
I know that sounds crabby, but....geez.
While I do think you make some good points, I also think that playing actual guitar takes a lot of effort time and dedication, much more than playing guitar hero.
Through my few years of actually playing guitar I have discovered that people like the idea of playing guitar a lot more than their drive to actually learn it. Once they figure out that they arent good at it right away they quit and give up on it. Guitar hero lets people get the experience of playing guitar while getting to skip all of the hard work involved in learning guitar.
Now dont get me wrong, having a good amount of experience in both areas, I would rather play actual guitar than Guitar Hero and Im glad I put the time and effort into it, but Guitar Hero is still a whole lot of fun and I dont regret any of it.

Guys/Gals, I'm an old school gamer, grew up on Atari 2600/Intellivision/NES etc.....I haven't played a console video game in a long time, but I've heard amazing things about this game.
What's the objective/deal with Guitar Hero?...What's it all about?
Basically, you play the "Career" of a guitar player, and you basically just play along with "popular" songs. The better you do, the more points you get, the more money you earn, the more songs you unlock.
Thats the jist of it.
The guitar has 5 coloured buttons the fret board, and a "strum bar" wher eyou wold normally strum the strings, as well as a whammy bar, you have to hit the strum bar at every note that comes across, as well as hit the coressponding coloured button at the same time. (see the video above for an example)
It is very addicting for some reason and i love it!!
I'm having a guitar hero party tonight at my house!!!
