What is the venue like? Is it like SB where you have to buy a ticket for the floor or balcony?

As far as I'm aware, having never been there, it's all one level.

The Astoria's smaller than SBE, but it does have a seated balcony and a standing section. I think it's about 2,000 people in total.

I've only been there a couple of times. (I'm seeing the Manics there in a couple of weeks!
) If you go there on the Saturday though, you'll get a very different crowd!
It looks like a bit of dump but it's in a cool location...

It's been on my list of venues to see a band at for a while, and when I heard it may well close it jumped near to the top, so this was perfect!

yeah, it'll be cool to meet up with some hip heads before the show for some beer. as long as i don't get lost trying to find my way around london, or navigating the tube (i've done that before).
last year i met up with a friend from italy - he came over especially for a concert at the mean fiddler.

cool. The Astoria is a little easier to find than the Empire I suppose, at least it's VERY central.

Yup. G.A.Y. Is a big club night in London, mostly (obviously) aimed at the homosexual market, but they have some good acts play there occasionally and the outlandishness has made it popular with a very wide ranging audience.

Yep, hence the "very different crowd" comment.
It's goldmine if you like the Sugarbabes and Natasha Bedingfield though... :?05-10-2007, 03:50 PM
When I was in London, I remember walking by and a scalper who was selling tickets to Fountains Of Wayne. I remember looking at the sign and being all... "Thats odd how a semi-big band would play a gig at a gay club..."
I'd still go though

Be fair Ben, they do (very occasionally) get better performers like that playing G.A.Y.
I seem to remember Tina Turner doing a slot there in the mid nineties and most British 'pop' acts (Mika for example) pop up there for a half hour set when they have new material to promo...
