White Stripes jam with elders, rock Iqaluit

Saw the White Stripes in Toronto last night.

This was my first show, but I know their catalog well and especially enjoyed “I’m Slowly Turning Into You” and “Ball and Biscuit” — tunes in which Jack White melted some faces. After that, the crowd tried to sing along to their cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”, but couldn’t keep up.

The setlist was awesome — but only included two or three tunes off of the new album. They played “Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground”, “In the Cold, Cold Night” (with Jack’s ’sisiter’ Meg on vocals), “We’re Going to be Friends”, “My Doorbell”, “Fell in Love With a Girl”, and Seven Nation Army — which they closed the show with.

From the new album, the “Icky Thump” and “Effect and Cause” were outstanding!

They played JTR? Do they normally do that?
They play JTR quite a lot. A video to search out is from the last night of the Conan stand when "Elephant" came out. The play Let's Build a Home -> Going Back to Memphis -> John the Revelator -> Let's Build A Home. It was a work of art.

I worked last night at the Voodoo Garden (I was the asshole who wasn't letting anyone in without ID after the show Wink ). From what I heard, to me this sounds like a show that would have been in my top five all time if I hadn't sold my ticket in the pit. What a great setlist.

Cheers,

Pat
I was lucky enough to be in downtown toronto yesterday and on a computer to get the word that the stripes were playing a secret show at yonge and grovesnor- had 10 mins to get there and made it in 7- got there and there was one other person eventually 30 -40 more showed and waited till a man in a black hat , black suit and red tie came out of the ymca down the road- everybody ran to him- no cameras, or recording devices were allowed thou i got some pics- The show was in a little room where a kids day camp was - the kids sat up front and the band had a full set up - they played 5 songs, martyr, apple blossom, hotel yorba, we're going to be friends... was amazing at the end of it they had shirts for $5- the show later on that night was unreal massive crowd and the pit was pretty full unlike some g.a shows i had been at in the past- marketing wizards behind the white stripes
I'm just now starting to really get into the Stripes. I've been listening to Icky Thump a lot since it came out & i love it. I'm really looking forward to seeing them on Wednesday.
I cant believe the Stripes played a surprise gig at the Arva Flour Mill just outside London, thats unreal. Were talking a town of 100 people and a 150 year old Flour Mill, I saw some of it on the news at 6, Im sorry I missed it. Thankfully it was being filmed for a later dvd, 21/2 hours till showtime, later!!!

:jump
I can't wait to see where they play their surprise gig here in Charlottetown! They've picked some interesting locations so far...
Just got back from the London show, oh baby Jack was on fire, the Stripes never dissapoint. The new songs were awesome live and it was a great setlist, I cant remember it all it went so fast but it was a very good mix of songs. From what I can remember...(in no real order, sorry)

I Think Were Going to Be Friends

I might have missed a couple and sorry its out of order, Im still trying to take it all in.

Also I think it has to be said, I dont think there's a better active guitar player on the planet right now than Jack White. He is unreal, he should go down as one of the greats, some of you might think Im nuts, but if you seen them play live you'll know what I mean, this guy can hang with the best of them.

Amazing show, probably the best one Ive ever seen so far, there Toronto 2005 show is right behind. STRIPES RULE!!!!!!!!!

Nite all!

ps. Meg was hot. :thumb:
I totally agree with you Lizard, Jack is definately one of the best guitar players ever. Looks like you got an amazing setlist, better than Toronto by far. Big 3, You Don't Know What Love Is, Little Cream Soda, IJDKWTDWMS, I Think I Smell a Rat, Catch Hell Blues and Astro would have been amazing to see. The Toronto show was still great but this sounds like it was better judging by the setlist, I knew I should have went to this show.
What time have the White Stripes been going on stage? I'm guessing around 9?
