I haven't been very well for a couple of months, turns out I have Ulcerative Colitis, I was just officially diagnosed the other day. I wont go into details but it really sucks and Ive never felt so bad in my life. Now I have to take a strong steroid drug with bad side effects. Not having a great time at the moment, I cant wait to get better.
Anyway I didnt post this to get sympathy or cry about it, actually I just wondered if anyone else on the Base has Crohn's Disease or some type of IBD? And is anyone here ever had to deal with a chronic disease of some kind, how did you cope?
Any encouraging thoughts out there?

my best friend in grade 9 was diagnosed with crohn's. i felt so bad for him. we just started high school and he had to be home schooled for pretty much all of high school. we lost touch so i don't know how he's been doing lately but he hung in there during all the tough times. i hope he is doing ok now. this post made me feel guilty now because i haven't tried to contact him and see how he is for a while now. i hope he recovered. :?
Sorry to hear that man, I'll pray for you tonite. I'm not familiar with Ulcerative Colitis, what caused it? Can you make a 100% recovery from this?
Get well soon......
My disease is similar to Crohn's but not as bad. My cousins boyfriend has Crohn's bad, he just wasted away in the beginning and was in lots of pain, it was awful. Sorry bout your friend, its not a fun thing at all.
Thanks for the well wishes summiteer, doctors aren't sure how people get it, its one of those diseases that just happens. The long term diagnosis is that Ill have it the rest of my life, it just depends on how much we can control the symptoms, you have periods of feeling good and peroids of "flare-ups", hopefully mine will be few and far between.
If anyone wants to read about it.. http://www.ccfc.ca/English/info/ibd.html
Sorry to read about this. I really didn't know what it all entailed, but just read up on it. Best wishes on battling this.. and hoping it goes into remission forever!
Mike the guitar player for Pearl Jam has Crones. He runs a research foundation trying to find a cure. I heard an interview on NPR with him about his condition and his efforts to help others with the same condition. I'll look into it and see if I can find some info for you. From what I remember he said it was a hassle but he has been able to stay healthy and rock on. Keep your chin up dude were all here for ya!

I remember Stone talking about it when PJ came to London, didnt know much about it at the time. You can live a long relatively healthy life with it, I hope it goes that way.
Thanks for the nice post. :thumb:
Good joke farmer, I was waiting for something like that.

Hey, I found a web site. It's Mike who has it.

Daryl Palumbo, the singer of Glassjaw/Head Automatica has crones as well. They cancelled quit a few tours over the years and some mid-way through because he had to be home to recover. The symptoms come at large and just randomly. Its a terrible disease.
I wish you the best fellow hipbaser. :thumb:
Geeze LK, sorry to read about this. Hopefully the steroids help to ease any pain.
Stay Hip! I'm sure everyone's thoughts are with you, as mine are.
This is the link to the CCFA. There may be a chapter in your neck of the woods.

My wife's family has a history of bowel problems. Her sister and brother both have colitis...the brother has it worse. It seems to come and go with him. When he was younger and still in university, the drinking and partying really made it flair up much worse than normal. I don't know if you're much of a drinker, but if so, cutting down or stopping all together will help out a lot. For her sister, she also has celiac(sp?) disease and is on a gluten free diet which has helped the colitis out in the process. You might want to consider that but consult your doc first.

Thanks to all who posted so far, I appreciate the concern.
In response to your post Billy, Im not much of a drinker these days I hardly touch the stuff anymore, now Ill probably quit altogether or just keep em few and far between. As for diets, UC isnt directley food related, some foods can upset some people with the problem while others have no problems at all. So far Ive tolerated all kinds of foods nothing in particular has given me problems, the doc said to just eat a balanced healthy diet.
