I really need to cath up on some albums I missed this year, I was only able to come up with 7 that I've enjoyed.

1 - Crack the Skye - Mastodon
Not only the best album of the year, but my favorite album in years. Proggy/spacey stoner metal at its absolute finest. It needs to be listened to front-to-back in a blaze of pot smoke, but these two songs still kick ass on thier own.

2 - Clutch - Strange Cousins From the West
Strong contender for the #1 spot. Awesome bluesy stoner rock, and one of thier best albums, period. If this song doesn't make you want to get up and dance and headbang, then you have no soul.

3 - The Bakerton Group - El Rojo
Insturmental side project from the members of Clutch, and it's also awesome. I'm not sure how they managed to pull off putting out two albums this amazing in one year.

4 - Leonard Cohen - Live in London
If you enjoy Cohen in the slightest, this is a fantastic album. If you can't stand him, this won't change your mind. The performances are brilliant, and the setlist is flawless.

5 - Bob Dylan - Together Through Life
Dylan pretty much just churned this one out on a whim. He's one of the few people that can do that and still make a really damn good album.

6 - K-os - Yes!
Uptown Girl is quite possibly the catchiest rap song I've ever heard. Probably his best album, but it took a few spins to grow on me.

7 - Joel Plaskett - Three
I'm not quite as enamoured with this one as everyone else seems to be, but there's some really great songwriting on this. I really want to see him live again.

XX - We Are the Same - Tragically Hip
The only album I bought this year that I genuinely can't listen to all the way through. We waited three years for this?

I don't have a top 10 list for the year, but one that came out this year, a few weeks ago actually, is Haydain Neale's swan song, Soulmate by Jacksoul. Terrific Album, and a tremendous loss. Haydain was quite a talent.

We Are An Empire, My Dear - In-Flight Safety
Three - Joel Plaskett
The Hazards of Love - The Decemberists

Magic Potion - Black Keys
Set Yourself on Fire - Stars

(would have included more by some artists, but only did one for each)

I'm not gonna make a list but I just have to say if nobody's heard it, go pick up Attack In Black - Marriage. One of the best punk-folk-rock-etc. albums I've ever heard :jump

I find people either love or hate him, there's not too much in between. Personally I think he's one of the greatest artists to come along in a long while.

I second that.

I find that people who get to see him live become fans very quickly. He is a very personable, funny and engaging performer. And if you find his stuff too folkly give Down at the Khyber a try. Great album, that is where is started becoming a fan.
