The NFL Thread-->Wimps need not enter!

VioletlightHeron Wrote:BTW, how does a suicide pool work?

Every week you pick a team to win their game. If they win, you advance. If they lose, you are out. You can only pick a team once. Usually the last person standing takes the pot. Sometimes they are referred to as a "Survivor Pool" (a little more PC than "Suicide").

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. If I manage to win this thing I owe each of you a beer or 12.

jax for sure... that seems like a gimme to me.. they're gaining some momentum and played well even without leftwich... plus the browns are pretty soft

KC is also a good choice... no one can stop LJ, he will put points on the board... and the chiefs defense has been coming on strong... green is starting to find a rhythm with both gonzalez and kennison.... at the same time, plummer has been slowing down lately... i'd say KC will win something like 28-20

then again, i never seem to win proline so i'm not sure my opinion means that much haha

In that case, take Baltimore or Minnesota!

I suggest you avoid that one, cfernyh.

Yes, the Bengals wins have come against some weaker competition, but they can only play the teams the league schedules. They got beat pretty convincingly at home by Pitt, but it was a game where the Bengals squandered good opportunities to get out in front early, and never did get on track after those early mistakes.

I'm not saying that it was a "fluke loss" by any stretch; the Bengals hurt themselves and paid the price. But things could go very differently this time around - remember, Cincinnati hung 37 on Indy 2 weeks ago and 43 on Baltimore Sunday.

Pittsburgh may win, but in order to do so, they'll need score alot more than the 22.1 points per game they are averaging as of now (imo).

Minnesota looks to me like your best option.

NFC South division looks like the biggest battle yet. I hope TB gets in over Atlanta

Yeah, I'm tempted to go with them or Baltimore. But I can't stand Mike Tice (scalping his Super Bowl tickets, the open mouth gum chewing, the pencil behind the ear - he should be a high school gym teacher, not an NFL head coach) so it doesn't feel right going with Minny.

A colleague told me to go with GB over Chicago IN Chicago. Yeah, OK. I guess he doesn't want free beer.

Whatever you do, as much as it pains me to say this, do not pick Green Bay over Chicago. Brett will make it very interesting, I'm sure but he doesnt have Ahman or Javon to stretch the field. It's not a sure thing. Minnesota is playing better and Detroit, in my opinion, is going to phone in the rest of their season.

Well, I know it's a tough call and there are lots of factors that weigh into such a decision, but be warned - Baltimore's offense is anemic (31st in the NFL), averaging only 13.2 points per game (and it would be worse if my Bengals' D wouldn't have taken a nap after going up 34-0 on those Ravens Sunday, allowing 29 second-half points).

Just a heads-up...if Ray Lewis and Ed Reed aren't back from injury (and I don't think they are), I think even HOUSTON can do Baltimore in their own house.....

There's still plenty of time to pick, but Esthete has me thinking Minny.

As a Detroit fan, I say...

... good choice. The Lions are a basket case right now... I wouldn't be surprised if they don't win another game all year.

As weak as Baltimore is, they are a good backup pick, because Houston is HORRIBLE! A flag football team made up of 10-year olds would have a chance against the Texans (or as the guy who writes the Tuesday Morning Quarterback columns calls them, the Moo Cows) right now.

:x Damn cable networks! There not showing any of the good games today, not even the Chiefs-Broncos at 4, Im stuck watching the Bills put the boots to Miami or Minny and Detroit. Im going to have to seriously consider the NFL package next year.

Its Cincy 20 Pitts 14 at the moment, I wish I could see this game, looks like a good battle.

The Bengals proved they are the better team today. The Steelers made it close but Cincinatti has too much firepower. I don't know what happened to the Steelers' defense but it's not the same as it was, that's for sure.

BTW, that 21-0 lead for Buffalo turned into a 24-23 Miami win. The Bills continue to be the laughing stock of the NFL. They'll get a higher draft pick but since their front office can't draft worth shit (Erik Flowers, Mike Williams anyone????),it won't matter.

Brad Johnson is 5-0 this year. Who woulda thought eh???

Oh yeah, that was the real Drew Bledsoe today! :thumb:

The Bills deserved to lose that game for always calling McGehee to run it up the middle at the end of the game. Calling a running play up the middle on third and long is a joke. Not only that they were about to lose before that interception and they handed the ball back to Miami again with 2 minutes left. Theres no excuse for that.
