Agreed. Or maybe even quadrupleheaders in the first round and doubleheaders in the second round? It definitely drags on too long, imo

In order to spice up the 'off-season', make the relegation round a bit more interesting.

Maybe say the "OUT" songs will be decided between May and August, and the "IN" songs will be decided between August and March?

Maybe not.

But at least make a bit of an announcement as to which songs have been kicked out of the tournament line-up, and which have replaced them. Make it a bit more of an exciting race.

Is there anyway to redirect everyone when they click on hipbase for the day to be automatically directed to the voting page?
If I click my Hipbase bookmark it would be great to have that be the first thing I see.
Sometimes I logon and don't notice the "tiny" 64 great matchup link. And if I, being a daily user, don't see it - I bet many, many more people don't either.
That way you could have pretty much a couple hundred votes instead of 60.

There there needs to be some sort of 'advertising' among the Hipbase. I bet a lot of users don't even know about it.

Good call. I will bring that up with Lance before next year`s tournament, to see what he can do about that.

As far as speeding up the tournament, I understand that It is lengthy, but my purpose and goal for the tournament was to make members visit Hipbase.com more frequently (i.e on a daily basis). As shown by the results of the poll in this thread, it seems to be working!

I will, however, take a good hard look at instituting some double headers, as I may be quite busy next year around tournament time. That would relieve some of the time constraints off of me. Thanks for the great feedback discussion thus far.

I attempted to send out a newsletter memo for the 2008 tourney, as I asked Lance if he had a list of email addresses from every Hipbase member. He said he did not. Perhaps we could provide a link for Hipbasers to voluntarily opt in for a monthly Hipbase newsletter, which would highlight the "Thread of the Month", and other Hipbase festivities like The Hip 64 tournament. There is certainly the graphic design talent in the community to pull something together. I think it would take the Hipbase to the next level! Thoughts? Ideas?

If an email newsletter doesn't work out, then sending out a mass PM will probably work just as well. And then people don't need to sign up for it. I think most people get email notifications when they get a PM anyway.

I was just reading through this thread and wondering if somebody could confirm if we will be receiving PM's to vote. It would be nice if we could get 75-100 votes per song this year, unlike the 40-45 that we were getting last year.

I will not have time to do that, however, if someone would wish to volunteer in that way, please send me a PM to get set-up with the info.

So, what is the response from the 2010 tournament? Did you like the format - doubleheader first round? Weekdays only? Any other comments you wish to reiterate?
Thanks for participating!

I think the set-up was well done. Maybe double up the second round as well? Mind you, it would only cut 8 days off the time. Not nearly as much as the first round.

Definitely like the weekdays only though. Too much going on for me on the weekends.

Thanks for the good job Shane!

Cheers!
