I bought Sam Adams once and I thought it was the worst beer I've ever tasted, maybe it was different from the Sam Adams in the states, but whatever it was I thought it was terrible.

My favourite beer is MGD.

[quote="The Horrible EstheteI've had Pilsner Urquell many times - I loved it at first, but now, whenever I have one, I get past a "tinny" or metallic aftertaste that becomes a little bothersome by the end of the bottle.[/quote]

I'll only drink it on tap to be honest! I find the bottled stuff really inferior!

For bottles I'll go for Staropramen of Kozel if I want Czech beer... or Budvar of course.

Has anyone else had Czech Dark Pilsner??? It's liek beer with coffee in it, nicer than it sounds and very potent!

You know, I do remember having PU on tap once....and it was better than the bottle. Though it's about impossible to find on tap here in the States...

Yes I have, and I remember enjoying it immensely. Also hard to find in the States.

If you like that, you'd enjoy that Great Lakes Porter or Sam Adams Black Lager I spoke of.....though, I doubt you can easily find either across the pond.....

Big Grin

Sam Adams is about the best beer I've had from the States that didn't come from a microbrewery.

If I was trapped on a desert island with 5,497 cases of only one brand of beer, and an enormous, Dharma Initiative geothermal-powered refrigerator, it would have to be Guinness.

i agree with you on both fronts. when boston was playing the yanks in the playoffs last year i thought i'd be all anti-yankee and buy sam adams, a boston beer. i couldn't down it!!

i like mgd too. not quite in my top five, but possibly sixth or seventh.

Esthete... we only really get PU on tap over here as a special import on beer fest promos and that sort of thing... if I find it I tend to drink the place dry!

I like Sam Adams... it goes great with pizza from John's in New york :thumb:

I think it may have a *tiny* bit more to do with local pride, but the beer out of Dogfish Head Brewery in Lewes/Milford/Rehoboth, Delaware is pretty decent.

Their 90 Minute IPA is tasty and hoppy. Their fall and spring seasonal IPAs, Punkin' Ale and Apihop respectively, are also quite good.

Fort is good, full of raspberry and yumminess.

Esthete was not as impressed when we visited this summer, but I stick by my Dogfish!!

There's a St. Louis microbrew called Schlafly which is actually quite good...what with the Anheuser-Busch brewery here I just assumed the city was full of people that know nothing about beer, but that isn't entirely true.
