The Hold Steady
#1

Anybody into these guys? I saw them on Letterman the other night and I thought they were fantastic. Kind of an indie-rock meets Bruce Springsteen/bar band sound with loud in-your-face guitars and great lyrics. They reminded me a bit of The Lowest of the Low.

Really dig their CD - I think I mentioned it on my Best of '06 list. Have to admit it took me a couple of listens, but definitely some good tunes.

i like most of their first cd, some of their second and little of their third.
with three albums in the bag i'd now call them a one-trick pony.

Steve Stanley from the lowest of the low got me into these guys last month. I was telling him how there havent been that many good shows lately and he told me to check them out when they were in a buffalo a few days later. I did and I was amazed. I have been listening to "Boys and Girls in America" and "Almost Killed Me" almost non stop for a month now. Def. good stuff!

I'm casually into them.

Pitchfork hypes them as the best band in the world, and I don't see it. But they're good.

Finally picked up "Boys and Girls in America" the other day and I'm already addicted. What a great record! I think I might have to make another trip to HMV this week so I can pick up Almost Killed Me and Separation Sunday as well (if I can find them). I don't think I've been this excited about a new band since I discovered the Drive-By Truckers back in '03.

After reading this thread a few weeks ago I downloaded Boys and Girls in America. At first, I wasnt sure how i felt about them, but this past week I've become completey addicted to them! Thanks guys for the heads up!

From wikipedia...."Boys and Girls in America (2006) was ranked 8th on Rolling Stone Magazine's Best Albums of 2006 and ranked 1st by the Onion A.V. Club"

congrats to them!
