they are all puppets, looking for the money in the hat. He should have maned up and let them fire him. resiging means you quit. Politically he looks better resigning then being fired. He's in a no win situation and he knows public perception of him and the Office is bad. If he really stands by his words, you don't quit. You may be forced out, but he's trying to look better for HIS future, not the countrys.

The only place that I know of that calls a firing a firing is the business world. This is politics; there is alot of face-saving gestures like saying you resigned rather than you were forced out. The other thing I found interesting is that Bush didn't announce Rumsfeld's depature before the elections. It would have taken alot of wind out of the Democrats sails by showing the voters they were concerned with the management of the war and making changes. That probably would not have satisfied the Democrats, but it would have resonated with some of the voting public.
