prison is big business in the states...and who are they gonna fill it up with? certainly not white people! oh no...not even if they like to smoke crack and shoot hookers (while they're not looking...)!

Whew, that's a long article. I didn't read it all, but I'll gives the Coles Notes version. I'm only an expert because it was on 20/20 last night and I watched the segment.
The man was convicted of murder of a male prostitute. He claimed in was in "self defense", but there was overwhelming evidence stating otherwise (ie: the victim was shot from behind). He somehow gets off with 10 years probation... but that might have something to do with the fact that he was the son of a very wealthy and powerful man. He is somehow tied to one of the biggest churches in in Texas - I want to say he's a priest, but I can't recall. There's no question that is surname played an enormous and undeniable part in his light sentence. So, this murderer has never spent a day in jail. Meanwhile, while on probation, he's dealing and possessing cocaine. His sentence for breach of probation? Another slap on the wrist.
Now, a young black male gets in trouble with the law. He pulls a gun on a man after coming out of a convenience store in a $2 hold up. No one gets hurt in the ordeal, and the victim was actually given back his $2 the next day. He goes to trial before this same judge. Get 10 years probation (sound familiar?). He smokes a joint while on probation and returns to the same courtroom. His sentence for breaching probation? Life sentence.
The wealthy fund politicians. Politicians get elected and appoint judges. It's amazing what a little money can get you in this world...

This is ridiculous. This is EVERYTHING that is wrong with the justice system...people who haven't had time to turn their lives around, others who have and make the wrong decisions, and tax money wasted on ridiculous means, like a kid who smoked pot.
