I dont turn 17 for another 2 months, and if you have been following the "World Container Tour Updates" thread, you will see some of my posts and know how pissed I am about this. Its a shame, it truely is.

Guys, sometimes it happens. I'm 18 for a few more months and although it's a shame the timing isn't right, just keep your chin up and know that they'll always be back. Afterall, they are playing in "clubs". It's not like "The Hip" don't want you there, unfortunately the law has an age limit.

I bet if Gord Downie was PM, we could go into any building we wanted.

We've all had to go through it. I missed countless shows in Kingston because they almost always used bars as venues. When a band's playing in a bar, managment is counting on people buying drinks - it helps them to break even. Obviously, if you're not of legal drinking age, you won't be buying much of their alcohol. And to have an "all-ages" show with a designated drinking section is just flirting with a liquor license suspension. I've seen it happen and it happend in the club I used to work at.

I've never been to a 19+ or 21+ show, but I know that every show I've been to that has not served alcohol was better because the drunk morons were a minority. I understand the desire to have a drink while watching a show, but do you really think that the majority of show complaints that we read about on this site would happen at an all-ages, no alcohol show? I mean, there will always be jerks at shows, but I'd much rather deal with three jerks than 15 drunk jerks.

They could play all ages shows at the Commodore in Vancouver without getting in trouble, they'd have to start at maybe seven though.
Ah well.

Guys, I know it sucks, I'm 20 now, and I wanted to go to a million 19+ shows before I turned 19. The vast majority of shows that happen are 19+ shows at bars/clubs/what have you. It's a question of the law and what venues allow. I don't know if the Phoenix ever does all-ages shows? I know the Koolhaus does in Toronto, but seriously, the Hip at the Koolhaus?
The Hip are doing this as a small-club tour. Club-shows and pretty much accross-the-board limited to 19+. It sucks to be not 19 and unable to go, but it's very cool for them to do these kinds of small shows when most of the time we have to see them at huge impersonal venues.
It sucks, but that's life. These venues support themselves off drink sales. I also wouldn't generalize about stupid people at 19+ shows, I've been to a bunch of 19+ shows where everyone is very cool. It's the people who are stupid, not the fact that there's alcohol in the building. If you want to complain about it, complain about the fact that the Hip seem to have a shitty minority in their fanbase who go to do stupid things.

Ok so you'll pay me back $60 dollars plus service charges if I don't get in?
It's easy to say be creative when your of age. Yes, sometimes it can work but it's a bit of a risk paying for a ticket at a 19+ show when you know there's always a chance that you might get booked - whether its a fake id or a siblings.
