According to a press release sent out today, Gord Downie is scheduled to appear (not sure if he is performing) at the One X One benefit concert at the Carlu in Toronto on September 10.

ONE X ONE ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL LINEUP OF MUSICAL TALENT FOR THE ONE X ONE BENEFIT GALA
ONE X ONE is proud to announce the following Juno Award-winning musicians who will be performing at this year’s ONE X ONE Benefit Gala, hosted by Matt Damon, on Sunday September 10th, 2006 at the Carlu in downtown Toronto. The following artists are in addition to previously announced musical talent including multi-Grammy Award winning artist John Legend, Chantal Kreviazuk and Our Lady Peace front man, Raine Maida. ONE X ONE, working with War Child Canada, has organized a roster of incredible talent who have donated their time for the evening:
· Sam Roberts
· Gord Downie
· K’naan
· Sarah Harmer
· Buck 65
· The Payolas
“ONE X ONE is a fantastic cause, helping children in Canada and around the world. We are set once again to present an incredible evening of entertainment and significance,” said Raine Maida.
The ONE X ONE dinner and concert will feature songs and performances from War Child Canada’s new benefit CD, Help: A Day in the Life, to be released September 5th. Several of the musicians performing at ONE X ONE, including Sam Roberts, Raine Maida, Buck 65, Chantal Kreviazuk, and The Payolas have contributed exclusive tracks to the album and will be performing them that night.
Sam Roberts, one of the evening’s performers, added, “I'm honoured to be able to take part in ONE X ONE, and to have contributed to War Child’s Help: A Day in the Life album. It's a sad fact that so many children around the world are suffering the effects of poverty, conflict and preventable disease. Hats off to ONE X ONE and War Child for recognizing that music can be such a powerful tool for positive change.”
Funds raised from ONE X ONE’s incredible night of ‘music and story telling’ will go towards the following charities and their initiatives:
· War Child Canada
· Right To Play
· Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada
· Child Find
· The African Children’s Choir
ONE X ONE is a non-profit foundation committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children. Through its annual campaign, ONE X ONE is dedicated to helping create a world where children can live safely and with dignity. In 2005, ONE X ONE facilitated over 1.3 million dollars distributed to Canadian charities and global initiatives.
War Childs Canada’s Help: A Day in the Life is supported by ONE X ONE and features exclusive contributions from Coldplay, Radiohead, Keane, Gorillaz, Metric, City and Colour, The Dears and many more. All proceeds from Help: A Day in the Life benefit War Child Canada’s overseas humanitarian programs.
